The Department of Residential Education and Housing at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Residence Hall Director. The Resident Hall Director is responsible for managing all aspects of a university residence hall including supervision of student staff, management of building facilities, developmental contact with residents and overseeing judicial, educational, and social outreach within the hall.

Duties include but are not limited to:living and working in the residence hall; supervise, train, and evaluate 8-11 student Resident Advisors and work study front desk staff; emergency/crisis management for the residential community while on duty; teach a section of Peer Group Communication credit-bearing class; create, develop and maintain an inclusive community that is engaging, fosters growth, and helps students reach their desired potential; enforcement of policies and processes within the residential community (including acting as a hearing officer); personal support and group advisement; updating and maintaining collegiate databases; managing occupancy within the building community; department committee involvement; RHDs function under a flexible work schedule that may include weekend and evening hours. This is a 10 month position with a starting date of July 27th, 2023.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree by time of appointment

  • Residence life or group living experience

  • Demonstrated excellence verbal/written communication skills

  • Educational programming or event management experience

Preferred:

  • Master's degree

  • Supervisory experience

  • Crisis and emergency management experience

  • Experience with community standards hearings (conduct hearings)

  • Experience with facility management

  • Experience with conflict management

  • Experience with Maxient and StarRez

  • Experience working with and serving diverse populations
