Job Description:

The Division of Finance and Administration at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for the position ofStaff Assistant for the Office of Sustainability.Expectations include, but are not limited to, supporting sustainability in campus operations, academics, and engagement in the Office of Sustainability. The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual who will assist the Sustainability Coordinator with preparing and coordinating initiatives to support sustainability within the campus community, increasing engagement with the student body, marketing, website maintenance, social media presence, and assisting with various initiatives such as Move In/Move Out, Green Room Certification, Green Office Certification, Green Group Certification, Residence Hall programming, Red Closet Thrift Shop, Green Dragon Week, etc. The successful candidate will assist with the hiring of interns and the supervision/delegation of their duties, hold regular office hours, stay up to date with sustainability news and trends and assist with identifying areas of growth as they relate to sustainability at SUNY Oneonta. This position requires some weekend and evening hours. This is an 11-month position.

The Division of Finance and Administration at SUNY Oneonta includes several administrative offices providing a wide array of services in support of the university's mission, values and vision. Under the Division of Finance and Administration the Office of Sustainability coordinates the integration of sustainability into all aspects of SUNY Oneonta- in academics, operations and engagement. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the campus Sustainability Coordinator to promote understanding and awareness of sustainability issues, topics, and opportunities to all aspects of the campus community including students, faculty, and staff.

  • Coordinate trainings and presentations in support of energy and water conservation, waste minimization, recycling, sustainable building and landscape design, alternative transportation, procurement of green products and other sustainability topics as needed.

  • Manage daily operations of the Red Dragon Thrift Shop and associated student staff.

  • Assist the Sustainability Coordinator with Move Out and Move In programming.

  • Assist with developing and implementing sustainability related training programs in Residence Halls.

  • Create and manage distribution of promotional and educational materials and signage; writing, editing, and designing fliers, bulletin board displays, sustainability guides and training materials.

  • Maintain the University Sustainability website.

  • Facilitate sustainability-related experiential learning and campus as a living lab initiative on campus.

  • Support or coordinate monthly campus communications with listserv and bulletin.

  • Develop a sustainability internship program incorporating experiential learning.

  • Develop campus wide sustainability campaigns.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree at time of appointment.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Leadership experience.

  • Excellent organization.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Commitment to sustainability.

  • Familiarity with sustainability issues and trends including United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and climate change.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in sustainability or related field.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Experience working with faculty and students at a higher education institution.

  • Experience working with and serving diverse populations.

  • Experience working within the sustainability field.
