SUNY Oswego Department of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 24 intercollegiate varsity athletic programs as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full-time Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing and Fan Engagement.

Description of Responsibilities:

Under general supervision of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA), the Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing and Fan Engagement (ADA-MFE) plays a key role in the department of Intercollegiate Athletics (IA) and the broader campus community. Situated within the Division of Student Affairs, Intercollegiate Athletics at SUNY Oswego seeks, through the administration of 24 intercollegiate varsity sports, to advance the Colleges overall mission by preparing student-athletes to be leaders who live ethical and meaningful lives and build a better world as successful SUNY Oswego graduates.

The ADA-MFE is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing and ticket sales plan, and brand awareness. Consistent with SUNY Oswego's, the Division of Student Affairs, and IA mission and strategic priorities, the ADA-MFE will provide visionary leadership for staff, coaches, and student-athletes, focus on building community engagement, administering a campus marketing strategy to increase student engagement, and enhance the game-day experience.


  • Work within the mission of SUNY Oswego, Division of Student Affairs, and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to provide a competitive, unique, and memorable collegiate athletic experience for student-athletes

  • Support SUNY Oswego, Department of Student Affairs, and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Support coaches' efforts in the recruitment of student-athletes from geographically and demographically diverse populations

  • Develop and execute annual marketing and promotion plans for all 24 intercollegiate varsity athletic programs. Work directly with coaches to create sport-specific plans

  • Create and implement marketing strategies to help increase attendance, enhance fan experiences and gameday atmosphere for home contests

  • Develop a comprehensive student engagement plan to increase awareness of and attendance at home contests

  • Utilize email, text, and other marketing strategies to provide improved customer service and communication

  • Create and execute game day materials including but not limited to scripts, playlists and time sheets

  • Aide in development, monitoring and maintaining consistent social media presence

  • Manage and increase participation in the Laker Loyalty rewards program through the Laker App

  • Obtain sponsorships for give-a-ways, prizes and promotional items for home contests and Laker Loyalty rewards

  • Work with Residence Life and Housing, Auxiliary Services, student organizations and other campus partners to effectively promote home events

  • Work with Box Office to develop ticket promotions plans for hockey and basketball

  • Coordinate in-game presentations with college and external groups or individuals

  • Responsible for the planning, organization and execution of game management for all home contests, including neutral site games and SUNYAC or affiliated conference and NCAA championships

  • Serve as administrator in charge for all home hockey games. Responsible for crowd management

  • Track team revenue earned through game/event management and report at the conclusion of fall/winter/spring seasons to Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations (ADA-IO) and DIA

  • Submit an annual report including athletics engagement, attendance number for all events, game/event management expenditures, and a marketing and promotions evaluation to the DIA

  • Oversee athletic facilities scheduling, maintenance requests, and provide recommendations for facility improvements

  • Sport and/or area oversight as assigned by the DIA

  • Serve as a liaison to Campus Recreations and Fitness, Marketing, Box Office and other campus partners as assigned by the DIA

  • Secure, assign, train, and supervise graduate assistants, part-time employees, student workers, and interns associated with the overall function of the department

  • Serve on institutional committees in consultation with the DIA

  • Contribute to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties as assigned by the DIA and other campus leaders

Staff members must cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, SUNYAC or affiliated conference, and/or the institution with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations. Any person who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective actions a set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repeated violations

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Sports Management or related field by time of appointment

  • 1-3 years of previous Collegiate coaching experience

  • Experience Bleachr Fan App or comparable software

  • Experience in developing and implementing diversity, equity, inclusion, wellness-related, and student success programming

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Work experience in sports marketing, sales promotions or related field
