Description of Department:

The Department of Chemistry is an ACS accredited program with an active undergraduate research program and a small master's degree program. The department maintains one of the highest graduation rates of ACS certified degrees in the SUNY system. The department supports undergraduate degrees in biochemistry, chemistry, environmental chemistry, geochemistry, a minor in forensic science and a Chemistry Master's degree. The department is working to develop a new Materials Chemistry Program. The department and its faculty is highly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion issues and is highly interested in adding diverse candidates, including women, into its faculty. The department is well-equipped for teaching and research. The department supports summer research by funding student stipends through alumni funds. The department also supports a number of graduate students through teaching assistantships. The department includes several faculty members with awards in Mentorship, Teaching, Research, and Service. The faculty is committed to providing mentorship to new faculty for their success at Oswego. The Chemistry Department moved to a new 250,000 square foot, $118 million science building in August 2013.

The Department of Chemistry at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full time position for Visiting Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry.

Description of Responsibilities:

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry and general education courses offered in chemistry, and specialty courses in area of expertise. The Visiting Assistant Professor may also participate in the department's vibrant undergraduate and MS-level graduate research program by working with several students.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field at the time of appointment

  • Clearly articulated understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion issues (evidenced by diversity statement)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-doctoral and/or previous teaching experience is desirable

  • Research experience in synthetic organic chemistry (non-polymer based)
