This work order is for qualified people to perform a combination of tasks involved in the packing, pruning and picking of apples. While packing, workers will: sort the apples according to size, color and grade before packing; line boxes, cartons or crates with treated paper or cardboard; place apples in containers for storage or shipment; weigh and be responsible for stamping grade, brand and date of packing on container; and pack apples according to the quality and method of the employer. Workers will perform maintenance of the buildings and general orchard tasks including but not limited to pruning and hand-thinning apples trees, harvesting apples and repairing field bins used to store apples. Additionally, workers may be asked to drive tractor for spraying and mowing, pick up brush and stones on orchard floor, and plant and water trees. Workers will operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to remove apple bins from the outlying orchards at harvest time, transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid drivers license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers must have the knowledge and ability to prune and train apple trees. During Apple harvest season (August through November) workers are required to ensure that their productivity is at least 60 1-1/8-bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 4% bruising for fresh market. Workers must be willing to work in varied weather conditions as low as 5 degrees and work on snow-covered ground up to two foot deep and during harvest as high as 90 degrees with damp mornings. Workers must be able to handle and climb a 16-foot ladder. Work requires long periods of standing, bending and kneeling. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and be available to work Monday through Saturday. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description. Employer will furnish workers without cost, all tools and equipment required to perform duties assigned. Workers must come to work with proper clothing to perform required tasks. Workers may require to work 8 hours shift between the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm from Monday through Saturday. Workers get a 30-minute Lunch break which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as decided by the workers. The workers will return to work after their 30-minutes are up. The beginning and ending times will vary depending on the weather conditions in the orchard. Workers must be able to take direction in simple English. Due to Federal food safety regulations smoking is prohibited in ALL production areas, Workers can ONLY smoke in designated smoking areas determined by the employer. After hiring the employer may conduct random drug testing at the employer's expense. Requirements:
- Three months experience required in the described tasks.
- Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Repetitive movements, extensive pushing/pulling, extensive walking, frequent stooping/bending.
- Post hire drug test at employers expense.
