Business Intelligence (BI) Database Developer Intern

What does a summer intern at CNB do?

As the only local, full-service, community-owned financial institution in the Rochester area, Canandaigua National Bank & Trust is investing in you. Our interns experience firsthand what it is like working in the world of financial services. As a summer intern you will work side by side with our team to provide individuals, businesses, municipalities, and not-for-profit organizations access to all the financial services they will ever need. Interns will act as a member of the team for the summer, assisting the department help achieve the bank’s goal – of ensuring our community thrives and grows.

Throughout the summer, intern will have an opportunity to connect with each other, shadow within a branch, network with different departments, and enjoy social events. The summer will culminate in presentation to their managers and the Executive Team.

This position is a paid internship/co-op for Summer 2025. Program begins Tuesday, May 27th, 2025.

BI Database Developer Intern

The Business Intelligence Database Developer Intern will develop and maintain Business Intelligence (BI) reports and dashboards, participate in the development of new applications, and provide technical support to existing applications within the broader data management technical infrastructure. The Developer will work in a Microsoft BI development environment including using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), Power BI, and Excel Pivot Tables/ Power Pivot/ Power View. The developer will gain experience with Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS in a Data Warehouse environment and be exposed to both SQL Server and Oracle in an OLTP environment. Additionally, the developer will gain exposure to Salesforce and Salesforce Business Intelligence and AI technologies through Salesforce CRM.

The BI Database Developer designs and implements enhancements and modifications as to the Business Intelligence (BI) environment as illustrated by the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Developing business intelligence solutions for the bank by writing relational and multidimensional database queries.

  • Develops Business Intelligence reports and applications within specifications defined by business area.

  • Performs data validation, testing and QA of Business Intelligence applications.

  • Assists with debugging, monitoring and troubleshooting BI solutions.

  • Assists in the development of extract, transform and load (ETL) rules whenever required and prepares documentation detailing the processes developed.

  • Assists with data dictionary maintenance and ensures accuracy and completeness.

  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of business intelligence responsibilities.

  • Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other departments to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.

  • Diligently protects the confidentiality of customer information and other highly sensitive data which may be seen while performing the duties of the Associate Business Intelligence database developer.

  • Communicates with management and staff personnel to integrate goals and activities.

  • Responds to inquiries relating to his/her area, or to requests from other bank personnel, customers, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.

    What would our ideal candidate look like?

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. Masters preferred.

  • Coursework in data analytics, statistics, strongly preferred.

  • Experience in report writing tools.

  • Knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS) design and development.

  • Working knowledge of SQL or other data querying languages, Tableau, Power BI a plus.

  • Familiarity with database management/design tools and dimensional modeling concepts.

  • Knowledge of project management concepts.

  • Possess strong communication skills and organizational skills.

  • Desire and comfort interacting with a wide variety of people, both internally and externally.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Schedule: M-F 8:30a.m. – 5 p.m., with flexibly depending on needs. In office days are Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

    Compensation - $18 - $23 per hour

    The actual salary offered within the range is dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, level offered, and performance expectations.
