Description
$17 to $19 per hour and a Free YMCA Membership
Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director and Swim Team Head Coach, the Swim Team Assistant Coach will help administer the Swim Team Program of this Branch, which is designed to meet the needs of the Swim Team members. He/she will be responsible for carrying out the overall purpose, goals, objectives and philosophies of the YMCA of Greater Rochester and the National YMCA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure smooth functioning of the swim team in conjunction with the league rules and bi-laws.
Present on pool deck for all swim team workouts.
Ensure all workouts are posted in advance.
Ensure all swimmers are given the opportunity to compete in at least four meets per season.
Maintain all required records; kept accurately and up to date.
Maintain all equipment for the program and report any issues to the Aquatic Director, Aquatic Staff Associate, or Head Coach.
Assist Aquatic Director, Aquatic Staff Associate or the Head Coach in hiring process of Assistance Coaches/Support Staff.
Secure a substitute and/or communicate with Head Coach and Aquatics Director when unable to fulfill assigned duties.
Meet regularly with Head Coach and/or Aquatics Director to review programming and any issues that require management direction.
Work in cooperation with the Parents’ Committee to ensure sportsman like conduct of swimmers when at the branch, off-site or at meets.
Ensure a safe operation of the program both in and out of the pool area, including enforcing all pool rules and procedures.
Maintain all required certifications.
Attend all required meetings and training.
All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Must have current YMCA Lifeguarding or American Red Cross Lifesaving OR obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification or American Red Cross Lifesaving within 90 days of employment.
Must have current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen Administration certifications or the ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
Must possess the knowledge and ability to teach all competitive strokes, rules and regulations to team members.
Must be familiar with planning and coordinating practice sessions and swim meets.
Excellent communication skills.
Must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift.
Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally.
Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to spend long periods of time in the pool.
Remain alert, with no lapses in consciousness.
Move to various locations, including in and around an elevated chair.
Communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances, and communicate swiftly and effectively with emergency personnel over the telephone and in person.
Hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment, including in water, understanding that significant background noise exists in aquatic environments.
Operate alone as a lifeguard, without other lifeguards for support.
Observe all assigned sections of the water area.
Perform all needed rescues and survival skills
