Position Summary

  • The CDL Trainee will be assigned a company trainer. He/she will go through a month-long process to prepare for the CDL B exam. After the successful completion of the program, the trainee will advance to the Ready-Mix Driver position.

  • This position is a permanent seasonal role, from approximately April-November.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who already have a CDL B.

  • CDL Permit

Main Responsibilities

  • Transporting and dumping concrete

  • Ensuring slump of concrete to external customers

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task

  • Push or pull levers to turn mixer drum and dump contents

  • Move truck equipment and supplies in accordance with CDL pre-trip guidelines

  • Oil and lubricate equipment

  • Provide excellent customer service at all times

Skills

  • Good customer service skills

  • Good communication skills and ability to take direction

  • Aptitude for hands-on work coupled with strong mechanical skills

  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work on assigned tasks with minimal supervision

  • Proven abilit to work with others as a team

  • Responsible, reliable and dependable

  • Ability to do basic math

Physical Requirements

  • Variable hours, ability to work overtime

  • Working in various weather conditions

  • Physical strength must be enough to climb in and out of a truck throughout the workday

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

  • Need to be comfortable sitting for hours

  • Must be able to kneel, climb, bend, stoop and crawl

  • Physical strength must be enough to climb ladders

  • Ability to carry 40 pounds up a ladder

  • Ability to operate CMV at night/day

  • Ability to pass a DOT physical annually or bi-annually

Safety

  • Maintains a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment

  • Follows NYS DOT and ASTM standards

  • Follows all company policies, OSHA, and MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment

  • Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all tasks assigned

  • Operates truck in a safe and efficient manner, complying with all applicable policies, regulations, and traffic laws

  • Willingness to participate in Safety Conversations and Toolbox Talks

Functional/Technical

  • Performs a pre-trip inspection and prepares the required report

  • Monitors vehicle's gauges and alters appropriate parties immediately of any mechanical issues

Teamwork/Communication

  • Have the willingness to work in a team environment; assist co-workers and supervisors with assigned duties

  • Assist new hires in training in Ready Mix operations as directed by Superintendent

  • Communicate openly, honestly, and professionally with customers, co-workers, supervisors, and all others

  • Be willing to work alongside fellow employees to complete assigned tasks sometimes under adverse working conditions to meet goals set forth by management
