  • Child Care * ASSIS06040 Full-Time Putnam Valley, NY, USA ### Description We are currently seeking an Assistant Director for Camp Felix, 2021 (Sunday, August 1 - Friday, August 27) Staff must be available to work training week/weekend and all 3 weeks of camp The Assistant Director works under direct supervision of the Camp Director to achieve Camp Felix goals and objectives by creating and supervising a camp program that helps campers build positive relationships, improve their self-esteem, develop healthy habits and learn new skills. Specific responsibilities include: * Assist Camp Director in supervision of camp program starting with pre-planning before camp starts and evaluation after camp ends. * Reside at camp for duration of camp. * Directly supervise Unit Leaders and assist them with supervising Senior Counselors and Counselors; supervise Volunteers and oversee volunteer program at camp. * Act as first responder to camper issues including homesickness, conflicts and other behavior issues. * Actively ensure that the daily camp schedule is running smoothly. * Run or assist with the campers’ selection of activities during Electives period. * Inspect campers’ facilities during cabin check. Check for maintenance issues and report any findings to Camp Director immediately. * Participate in staff training and help deliver parts of the staff training during training week; reinforce staff training during the camp season. * Assist with all arrangements for transportation of supplies and distribution/storage of supplies at camp. * Participate in the end-of-summer inventory process to plan for what is needed next summer. * Assist with supervision of the arrival and departure of campers each week. * Help to implement camp mission, vision and goals as well as the camp policies and procedures. * Assist in planning and implementation of daily camp program. * Assist with oversight of the CIT program. * Serve as an exemplary role model for all camp staff. * Oversee end-of-camp clean up and packing process. * Assist with planning and implementing a successful Open House event during week 3 of camp. * Participate in end-of-camp staff evaluation process and camper questionnaire process. * Enforce safety and health regulations. * Assists in responding to emergencies in a manner consistent with camp safety policy and procedures. * Other duties as needed. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL NEEDS REQUIRED * High School Degree or GED required. * Must be energetic, enthusiastic, and a team player. * Must be a hands-on worker and serve as a positive example to campers and staff. * Excellent communication and leadership skills. * Must be able to encourage and support staff while providing constructive criticism and acknowledgement when needed. * Must have three years/seasons of camp experience and/or experience working with children in an educational setting. * Must be able to work independently assessing what needs to be done and taking action. * Must be able to delegate to staff. * Must be able to create a positive relationship with counselors and staff members. * Exhibit qualities such as patience, kindness, honestly, responsibility, compassion, and desire to help others. * Knowledge of or familiarity with the issues/needs of children involved in the child welfare system preferred. * Updated First Aid and CPR certification preferred. * Must be committed to the Camp Felix goals and regulations * Must be able to handle a crisis in a calm and effective manner. * Must be available for training week/weekend and all 3 weeks of camp. ## Qualifications ### Behavior Preferred Leader:Inspires teammates to follow them Team Player:Works well as a member of a group Enthusiastic:Shows intense and eager enjoyment and interest ### Motivation Preferred Ability to Make an Impact:Inspired to perform well by the ability to contribute to the success of a project or the organization ### Education Required HS Graduate or Equivalent or better Posted: February 6, 2021
