Job Description

The Cross Border Activities Business Risk Group Manager leads a team of Business Risk Officers who are tasked to execute components of the Cross Border Activities Control Execution for Wealth Management globally and is accountable for the management of the team, deliverables, and the end results of Cross Border Controls.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned Financial Services Professional, preferably with Wealth Management and Cross Border Activities knowledge, and applied Risk and Control management experience. Ability to think and design E2E controls, metrics, reporting and communications to manage and govern Cross Border (also known as Offshore) Activities, execute controls, continuously monitor, identify and pursue areas of improvement.

Managing the Cross Border Controls team will require strong organization, execution, trend analysis and problem solving skills. Candidate will need to demonstrate strong track record of working independently and bringing a solutions oriented approach to the role. Leader will also need to demonstrate ability to partner across all functions (1LOD, 2LOD, Support functions and Internal Audit). Success in role will require continuous improvement mindset that can balance meeting Regulatory and Citi policy requirements with delivering a strong employee and Client experience across Wealth's 5 businesses.

The Cross Border Activities Business Risk Group Manager is accountable for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. Leads and directs a team of professionals. Requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact to achieve the objectives of the function. Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity. Generally accountable for delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/ geographic regions. Excellent communication skills required to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication may be necessary. Accountable for the end results of an area. Exercises control over resources, policy formulation and planning. Primarily affects a sub-function. Involved in short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources for own area. Full management responsibility of a team or multiple teams, including management of people, budget, and planning, to include performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that emerging risks identified are socialized with key stakeholders and mitigation strategies are in place.

  • Identify areas of engagement based on level of investment, inherent risk, complexity of change and other risk factors.

  • Execute Risk Control coverage strategy, ensure appropriate risk mitigation actions are in place and escalate to senior management as appropriate.

  • Provide supervision of Risk Control team's efforts and assist with prioritizing and addressing roadblocks encountered.

  • Leverage reporting to identify trends, themes and areas requiring improved controls.

  • Drive Manager's Control Assessment monitoring, quarterly approvals and improvements required.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in Operations, Front Line Support, Risk and/or other relevant experience as well as experience in people management

  • Excellent communication skills required to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication may be necessary.

  • Full management responsibility of a team or multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Masters degree
