York College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. York’s academic programs are housed in three schools: The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from across a variety of disciplines, including accounting, aviation management, business, computer science, journalism, social work, teacher education, a dual BS/MS degree in Occupational Therapy, and one of the top-ranked nursing programs in New York State, provide students with opportunities to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. The College also offers five graduate programs: Aviation Management, Clinical Trials Management, Pharmaceutical Science and Business, Physician Assistant, and Social Work.

Reporting to and under the direction of the Director of First-Year Experience and Mentoring programs, the Student Life Specialist will assist with a comprehensive first-year experience program, year-round orientation and transition programs, and visionary direction for the Black Male Initiative (BMI) program, York College Mentoring Collective, and other efforts designed to strengthen the connection between the student and the College. The incumbernt will work collaboratively with the Director to ensure efficient program development, fiscal management, and implementation of student programming.
• Provide day-to-day supervision of the CUNY Black Male Initiative Program and York College Mentoring Collective, which serves a greater population of first-year students as a part of the First-Year Experience
• Review and analyze statistical data, report data as required by CUNY Black Male Initiative Program
• Expand mentoring program offerings to address the intersectionality of York students
• Develop and administer a comprehensive leadership training program for BMI
• Create and coordinate community outreach activities that will recruit males from underrepresented communities to York College
• Support the Director with the overall management and operation of Freshman, Transfer, and Family Orientation programs, and first-year experience programs
• Assist with developing a plan to successfully transition and support first-year and transfer students entering York College; Assist with the hiring and training of student support staff
• Assist the Director with the management of day-to-day operations of the Center for New Students
• Provide support for each orientation and transition program, in addition to administrative support to new students and parents
• Assist with the coordination, implementation, and supervision of the York’s Summer Bridge Program; Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to design, update and print all printed materials for all Summer Immersion and Mentoring programs
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Salary range for this appointment is $79,188 to $90,375
