New York Edge Tennis Coordinator in Queens, New York


New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region serving over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students each year. The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life.


The part-time Tennis Coordinator is a seasonal position until June 2022. They are responsible for developing, engaging & informing all New York Edge stakeholders in the NYE tennis program. They will provide support to New York Edge staff & participants by conducting site visits & ensuring high quality programming. The coordinator will be responsible for leading training, clinics, and events within the tennis program.

Pay Rate:

Up to $32.00/ hr. Offer will be commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead tennis clinics at NYE sites throughout the five boroughs. This includes traveling & transporting equipment.

  • Develop & create in-person and/or virtual tennis programming for NYE participants.

  • C oordinate & communicate relevant information to key stakeholders pertaining to tennis programming.

  • Create promotional materials related to relevant programming.

  • Coordinate and/or purchase supplies needed for events.

  • Conduct in -person and/or virtual site support visits for tennis programming across all NYE sites within the five boroughs.

  • Conduct in -person and/or virtual professional development for New York Edge staff to improve delivery of programming.

  • Assist in department-wide Sports & Wellness events & initiatives.

  • Develop materials & resources related to the tennis program.

  • Be liaison between New York Edge After-School Program Directors, Program Managers and the Sport s & Wellness Department.

  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Sports & Wellness and/or Sports Program Manager.

    Required Skills:

  • Passion for New York Edge mission and youth development.

  • Reliable, organized and punctual.

  • Knowledge of effective sports, health & fitness programming for female participants.

  • Strong leader and team-builder.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff.

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals, applying tact and discretion as situations demand.

  • Must have excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skills.

  • Responsible and professional conduct that serves as a role model to staff and youth.

  • Exhibits strong character traits and exercises patience and creativity while seeking win-win scenarios.


  • College degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, Exercise Science or subject that applies.

  • 2-3 years’ experience in tennis based program implementation for youth.

  • E vent planning experience.

  • Preferred experience with NYCDOE or Public School System.

  • Strong communication skills (presentation and written), leadership abilities, flexibility and outstanding problem solving skills.

  • Bilingual a plus.

  • Ability to travel throughout five boroughs.

  • Ability to work remotely

    Covid-19 Related Requirements:

  • Proof of Vaccination is required.

  • Must be willing to adhere to all federal, state, and local mandates regarding the Covid-19 virus which include but are not limited to wearing PPE and remaining socially distant.

    At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
