Southern Adirondack Independent Living (SAIL) Building, Grounds and Maintenance Tech in Queensbury, New York

Qualifications: High School diploma or GED preferred. Five years of experience in cleaning/maintaining facilities and grounds. Basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry knowledge, with ability to do minor repairs. Must be punctual, reliable, personable, and able to take direction and also work independently. Must be able to perform heavy duty tasks, and have no lifting restrictions. Must be able to establish and maintain a positive, professional rapport with fellow employees, consumers, and people with whom SAIL does business. Job Summary: This position is responsible for keeping the facilities and grounds in clean, safe and orderly condition through routine cleaning and maintenance. This includes Pollys House as well as the SAIL Center, and all related property. Must regularly assess and respond to what is needed to properly maintain the property, both inside and out, and notify management of need of repairs. Responsibilities: - Perform general, routine custodial duties, to include but not limited to: vacuuming, mopping, floor buffing, cleaning/sanitizing surfaces, and replenishing paper and soap supplies at both Pollys House and the SAIL Center. - Empty office and common-area wastebaskets, and take to dumpster on a daily basis. - Ensure that all bathrooms and kitchen areas are cleaned/sanitized daily and more frequently, if needed. - Maintain lawn and grounds. Mow and trim grass as needed. Attend to gardens regularly and prepare them for seasonal changes. Sweep/clean walkways. - Be prepared to assist with snow removal with s(nowblower/shovels) and chemically treating walkways during winter months. Ensure walkways and parking lots are safe for walking. - Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environment practices. - Responsible for maintaining proper care and usage of the maintenance room in the SAIL Center; Pollys House basement; and the outdoor sheds. - Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform occasional heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning/waxing/buffing floors, washing walls and glass, and thorough cleaning of bathrooms, kitchen, and common areas. - Assist in moving, assembling or repositioning office furniture or other items, as needed. - Must be able to safely handle large equipment, machinery and ladders. - Must work with finance office in the order and distribution of custodial supplies. - Responsible for providing assistance to the TRAID department. Duties include: keeping the TRAID room tidy and managing the clutter; assembling new equipment; cleaning/sanitizing returned equipment; assessing condition of equipment and making necessary adjustments/repairs as needed. May assist other TRAID staff and be asked to relieve them for breaks, as needed. - Perform any other duties as prescribed by the Executive Director or designee.
