Cornell Cooperative Extension CCE of Saratoga County Taste NY Welcome Center Manager – Queensbury, NY in Queensbury, New York

Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Saratoga County’s Taste New York (TNY) Adirondacks Welcome Center promotes the region's local tourism industry, rich history, food, and beverages. The Center is a partnership between CCE of Saratoga County, Cornell University, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM), and the NYS Empire State Development Corporation.

The Taste NY Welcome Center Manager oversees all aspects of the Center and helps ensure a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for staff and customers. The Manager frequently builds and maintains tactful, collaborative relationships with vendors, NY State agencies, Cornell University, and other CCE associations.

The Manager leads and motivates staff resulting in informal programs and education about NYS farmers and other producers; positive customer service to members of the public; generation of sales; minimizing losses; and ensuring the store and website is visually distinctive and impeccably maintained.

This position works in-person including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays based on the Center schedule ensuring appropriate staffing and supervisory coverage levels.

    Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery – 15%

  • Serve as a subject-matter resource; respond to questions and inquiries.

  • Provide education, training, and certification guidance opportunities for farmers and other producers interested in providing products. Assist farmers and other producers interested in providing products to market.

  • Provide periodic educational programming for the public on the topics of agriculture, horticulture, environmental sustainability, nutrition and/or the culinary arts in support of the Center.

  • Implement program strategies to improve agribusiness performance, best agribusiness management and marketing practices.

  • Represent CCE Saratoga and TNY at outreach events, meetings, and with stakeholders.

Program Evaluation – 5%

  • Evaluate the TNY Adirondacks Welcome Center program and make recommendations for improvements.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction – 25%

  • Plan staffing needs, budgets, inventory, and events.

  • Develop, enhance, and expand relationships with appropriate farmers and producers, public officials, agencies, vendors, organizations, industries, and community leaders.

Management – 40%

  • Ensure the Center focuses on informal public education, marketing, and promotion of NYS farmers and other producers.

  • Ensure adherence to contract guidelines.

  • Ensure the Center is impeccably maintained and visually appealing.

  • Manage all aspects of the Center including all aspects of product availability and sales to customers, obtaining necessary permits/licenses, procurement, delivery/transportation, product/farm/vendor identification, product placement, marketing and promotion, inventory, sales, financial records, site maintenance, staffing, payroll, management, customer service, and insurance.

  • Conduct vendor management for products sold, including data collection and information gathering from producers/vendors.

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality products and service. Provide feedback to participating producers/vendors as necessary.

  • Ensure all food and beverage products sold are produced or manufactured in New York State (or have case-by-case approval by AGM).

  • Ensure agri-tourism efforts are promoted through a variety of methods including informational kiosks and informational brochures, etc.

  • Directly recruit and manage staff. Set work schedules, ensuring adequate staffing on all shifts. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association’s policies and applicable laws. Assure positive, team-based employee relations.

  • Maintain equipment/supplies and manage service and warranty related issues as needed.

  • Ensure adequate and proper signage and other marketing/promotional materials.

  • Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.

Coordination/Operation – 10%

  • Provide training for the TNY staff.

  • Track and collect data on seasonal trends, product sales, cash flows, and promotional efforts.

  • Provide required monthly reports to AGM.

  • Complete and submit all required data, reports, records, and documentation in a timely manner.

  • Promote public awareness by drafting impact statements, social media posts, web updates, articles for progress/ annual reports, or news releases.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

    Position Details

This is a full-time, exempt position. Compensation paid in the range of $60,000 - $70,000 annually. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:
