As a member of PPGNY’s Compliance team, the Director, Clinical Risk is responsible for promoting the development and implementation of PPGNY’s Clinical Compliance/Clinical Risk programs. This position will collaborate with clinical, health operations, quality, research and evaluation and other staff across PPGNY to detect, prevent, measure, investigate, report and continuously manage risk-related issues from a clinical perspective with a race+ equity analysis of risks and outcomes.

This is a full-time position with primary focus on risk-related issues for:

Region 2: Amsterdam, Clifton Park, Cobleskill, Goshen, Johnstown, Kingston, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Queensbury/Glens Falls, Rome, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Utica


  • Proactively evaluate areas of clinical risk based on internal assessment and benchmarking, and implement strategies and policies that promote patient safety and organizational compliance that includes a race+ equity perspective. (10%)

  • Develop, and update as needed, tools and conduct regular Compliance/Risk audits (including chart and infection control audits) and observations (of provision of clinical services) to identify clinical risk and participate in recommendations for mitigation. (25%)

  • Monitor external audits, including coding and pharmacy audits. (5%)

  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure achieving/exceeding regulatory and professional standards with an understanding of best practices in achieving equitable outcomes across patient characteristics. This includes review and evaluation of policies and procedures, and recommend revisions or create new policies as needed. (20%)

  • Trend and track medical incidents, and collaborate with management teams to ensure awareness of serious incidents, adverse events, near misses/good catches and whether there is undo impact on some patients compared to others by service and demographic characteristics. (20%)

  • Stay current on applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements. (5%)

  • Collaborate with Clinical leadership to assist as needed with accreditation and regulatory reviews. (5%)

  • Monitor corrective action plans, and track and trend incidents and follow-up. (5%)

  • Travel to Region 2 PPGNY sites as needed.

  • Perform other clinical compliance and clinical risk duties as assigned.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • License: Minimum of RN.

  • 5+ years’ experience in clinical quality management, performance improvement, or risk quality management.

  • Knowledge and experience in the NY healthcare regulatory landscape.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in health care or health care administration or related field is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Record systems is preferred.

All positions at PPGNY require:

Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.
