Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Harm Reduction Specialist in Region 2, New York

When you join PPGNY as a Harm Reduction Specialist you will provide services to people in active substance use.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Dispense harm reduction supplies to program participants, including but not limited to: sterile syringes, cookers, tourniquets, naloxone/overdose reversal kits, etc.

  • Performs outreach activities in communities where potential PSB-R2 consumers congregate including methadone clinics, shooting galleries, strolls, community parks, street corners, and local business and service providers. Establishes trusting relationships and provides information on and referrals to PSB-R2 services;

  • Provides HIV and HCV counseling and testing to enhance harm reduction efforts, in the health centers and with our community partners.

  • Facilitates linkages to internal and external services including harm reduction services such as ESAP and overdose prevention services; as well as PPGNY health centers and external social service agencies.

  • Completes and submits service documentation on a weekly basis, and maintains files compliant with PSB standards

You have:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 1 year of volunteer or work experience conducting outreach to active substance users.

  • Must demonstrate competency regarding cross cultural differences and issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

  • Preferred experience working with issues such as homelessness, criminal justice system involvement, substance use, HIV/AIDS, and mental health issues.

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages preferred.

  • A valid New York State Driver’s License and/or reliable means of transportation is required

Compensation

  • $55,000 - 60,000 per year

All positions at PPGNY require:

Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season and Covid-19) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.
