When you join PPGNY as a Peer Support Worker you will apply your lived experience of accessing Harm Reduction services to assist others.
Additional responsibilities include:
Provide non-judgmental, non-coercive, confidential provision of services and resources to participants in order to assist them in reducing harm
Provide individualized harm reduction education to participants on overdose prevention, use of naloxone, Hepatitis C Virus, STI and HIV risk reduction and safer drug use.
Distribute naloxone kits
Offer HIV and HCV tests and provide referrals, as appropriate
Travel as needed for training, meetings, and workshops
Communicate effectively with teammates and participants.
Work well independently and in a team setting.
Create rapport with community members while maintaining professional boundaries
Work closely with Harm Reduction Specialists to ensure connection to HIV and HCV testing, treatment, care and support services for community members
Conduct outreach during routine service schedules and large-scale events
You have:
High School graduate or GED preferred
Well-known in and have strong ties to Black and/or Latinx communities
Be culturally aware and respectful of people who use drugs, people who do sex work, people living with HIV or HCV, currently and formerly incarcerated people, the LGBTQ+ community and individuals from different racial and ethnic backgrounds
Fluent in both the Spanish language cultural norms preferred,
Flexibility in work schedule a must; mornings, evenings, and weekends on occasion
An ability to travel program area throughout Newburgh, Poughkeepsie and Kingston, etc.

All positions at PPGNY require:
Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season and Covid-19) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.
