    Pest Management Program Assistant

Pest Management Program Assistant Position Available

Seasonal Program Assistant needed for Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Suffolk County Pest Management Program based at Suffolk County Vector Control, Yaphank, NY (train station on premises). Starting date is May 6, 2021 and ending date is flexible or under three months. Applicant must be able to work 8am-3:30pm Monday thru Friday.

Job Title: Seasonal Program Assistant

Salary: $13.00 depending on qualifications

Other: Position is full time, temporary employment

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of research trials on and off site

  • Performs duties including but not limited to tick collection and recovery from plots, data collection, entry and processing, microscope work, literature review

  • Assist with data statistics and entry

  • Work is exclusively with ticks

  • Maintain program files and records

Qualifications:

  • Preferably enrolled in college with a high school degree with some sort of science background but previous experience is not necessary.

  • Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather, performing various field activities

  • Ability to understand and implement written and oral instruction

  • Must be reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Ability to complete any given task in an efficient and timely manner

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Ability to meet the travel requirements associated with the position; Valid NYS driver’s license and personal vehicle for on-the-job transportation a plus.
