Maintenance Worker

General Statement of Duties

To provide a safe and sanitary environment for all residents, staff, and visitors with an understanding of life safety codes.

Distinguished Features of Responsibilities

Reports directly to the Maintenance Coordinator. The Maintenance Worker is expected to exercise independent judgement and initiative in carrying out responsibilities within the residential sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides maintenance to assigned residence.

  • Ensures residences are in good repair and free from hazards.

  • Establishes priorities in providing repair service.

  • Responds timely to emergencies.

  • Maintains open lines of communication with Maintenance Coordinator

  • Will carry a cell phone and will be on call during alternating weekends

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work overhead with arms extended (changing light bulbs, light fixtures/cleaning and services ceiling fans.

  • Ability to bend, squat and reach.

  • Ability to work is attics and crawl spaces that requires working on hands and knees

  • Shoveling, digging, snow removal and removing cesspool covers

  • Trailing a utility trailer

    Required Knowledge and Skill

    General knowledge of maintenance equipment and repairs that are essential in meeting the operating standards required for community residences. Ability to work with Plumbing, Electrical, Spackling and painting as well as carpentry skills.

    Work Environment

  • Work may be conducted either inside or outside according to maintenance requests.

  • Temperatures will be variable according to season and specific work site.

  • Travel from one local site to another may be required.

  • Tasks may involve moderate to heavy physical labor.

  • Walking, climbing, standing, sitting, bending, squatting, and lifting are required .

    Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma with at least two years’ experience in all phases of maintenance repairs.

    Valid New York State driver’s license.

    Must have primary tools to bring to work. These include cordless drill, hammer, screw drivers, channel locks, vice grips, adjustable wrench, socket set, sheet rock saw, spackle tools, pry bar, utility knife, pipe trends, level, circular saw and a caulking gun.
