Clinic Psychiatrist/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NPP)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Under the direct administrative supervision of the Outpatient Program Director, the NPP/Psychiatrist delivers comprehensive mental health treatment in a supportive and proactive fashion to serve all clients experiencing mental health and/or behavioral health challenges. RISE’s NPP/Psychiatrist is expected to collaborate with the Outpatient Program Director on clinical decisions. The NPP/Psychiatrist uses their clinical and medical skills to provide multiple treatment modalities, including but not limited to; assessing and diagnosing, psychoeducation, medication management, medication injections, and crisis intervention. The NPP/Psychiatrist supports individuals and their families through difficult times and ensure that vulnerable people, including children and adults , are safeguarded from harm. Their role is to help improve outcomes in people's lives. It is expected that the displays the utmost professionalism and integrity while executing the responsibilities below.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Assess patients' mental and physical status based on the presenting symptoms and complaints and diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions

  • Develop in conjunction with assigned clinician all treatment plans

  • Prescribe medication, administer injectable medications

  • Provide psychoeducation to assigned clients

  • Administer psychiatric consultation with assigned clients

  • Provide crisis intervention when necessary

  • Medication Administration/Medication Treatment

  • Health monitoring

  • Smoking cessation

  • Meets with clients as needed, monthly at minimum

  • Contact clients who have missed appointments for follow up information

  • Advocate for clients, meet with collateral contacts, and provide additional resources when necessary

  • Complete reports, additional documentation, and/or other duties and responsibilities as requested by supervisor

  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality and recordkeeping

  • Other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION REQUIRED:

    NYS medical license as a Licensed Psychiatrist (M.D.) or Nurse Practitioner of Psychiatry (NPP)

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-licensure experience working with MH population in a clinical capacity is required

  • Experience with diverse populations and age groups (adults and children) required; Bi-lingual (Spanish-speaking) is preferred

    ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong computer skills are required. The ability to use Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are critical. The knowledge or ability to learn software programs including use of data and trends to inform clinical practice

  • Be a seasoned NPP/MD with experience in community psychiatry

  • Have familiarity working with severe and persistent mental illness

  • Have experience working with clients who may encounter homelessness and/or are disenfranchised

  • Have experience working in a high paced environment

  • Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Valid NYS Driver’s License

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • The NPP/Psychiatrist must maintain their NYS medical license, a driver’s license, and a clean criminal background, in addition to maintaining the required trainings mandated by RISE
