**Function of Position:**

The MCC Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) serves students at local middle and high schools. The Program Coordinator, in collaboration with the school, faculty, and staff, is responsible for providing, organizing and implementing services and activities related to STEP at participating schools. The Coordinator reports directly to the Project Director for CSTEP/STEP at MCC. Essential duties include recruitment, outreach, networking, planning and implementation, data collection and tracking, advisement, and essential communication duties. **Assist the Project Director with the following NYSED Requirements:**

- Parent group
- STEP Advisory Committee
- Staff professional development and performance appraisals
- Hiring
- Tracking expenditures and other budgetary responsibilities
- Organizing enrichment opportunities for students
- Overseeing student experiences and records for compliance
- Assist with data collection, report and grant writing
- Oversee and monitor the recruitment and retention of student participants,
- Oversee and assist with the direct services provided to students
- Coordinate program-wide activities, including Summer Bridge, internships, conferences, field trips, Saturday College, and tutoring.
- Serve as STEP Liaison to school administrators, teachers and counselors.
- Serve as a resource to STEP Advisors
- Travel with, transport, or help chaperone STEP students on field trips, conferences and college tours
- Help facilitate Leadership Development
- Supervise Tutors and Enrichment Educators
- Coordinate the high school to college activities

**Secondary Functions:**

- Lead the program in the absence of the C/STEP Project Director
- Assessment of services and program activities
- Represent MCC and MCC STEP in a positive manner at the Middle/High Schools
- Attend local, regional and state STEP conferences and meetings
- Foster current and new networking opportunities that can benefit students in STEP
- Collaborate with College departments for joint programming
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities assigned by the CSTEP/STEP Project Director

**Job Requirements:**

**Required Qualifications:**

- Earned bachelor's degree or higher in Education, STEM discipline, or related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
- Staff supervisory experience
- Knowledge of the STEM disciplines
- Minimum of three years teaching in middle or high schools
- Demonstrated success with and commitment to supportive and inclusive environment, including infusing diversity and inclusion in student activities
- Proven successful advisement and mentoring experience
- Experience with developing and implementing curriculum
- Proven ability to work effectively independently and within a team to reach desired outcomes
- Experience and knowledge with community outreach and partnerships
- Ability to work some Saturdays and evenings
- Ability to travel locally on a regular basis
- Ability to chaperone and/or transport STEP students traveling to regional state and national field trips, including conferences and college tours
- Have a valid NYS Driver's license
- Ability to pass the NYS Fingerprinting Clearance

**Preferred Qualifications:**

- Earned master's degree in Education, Counseling, STEM or related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Minimum of two years' experience in a supervisory position
- Experience working with community organizations and external partners.
- Experience working in a STEM field/licensed profession or on a STEM related project.
- Five years' experience working with middle and/or high school students in educational environments



**Additional Information:**

MCC is currently testing a Pilot Telecommuting Program that runs from October 25th, 2021 to June 30th, 2023. Under the pilot program, this position may be eligible for remote work up to 5 days per pay period pending departmental need and leadership approval. The pilot program may be extended or terminated at any time at the College's discretion.
