University of Rochester Course Management and Scheduling Specialist in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

General Purpose:

The Course Management and Scheduling Specialist works alongside the Assistant Registrar for Course Management and Scheduling to create the published course schedule for Arts, Sciences, and Engineering in the fall, spring and summer terms. Course scheduling, course changes, final exam and common exam scheduling, classroom management, and the use of URStudent (Workday), EMS and other technical solutions are key components of this position.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with Office of the Registrar team members to review and publish the Arts, Sciences and Engineering course schedule each term (approximately 6,000 sections across 53 departments).

  • Works directly with academic departments to address any scheduling concerns identified by the Office of the Registrar. Provides documentation, training, and support to correct issues and inform business processes.

  • Provides input to create the annual course roll schedule provided to academic staff and faculty. This schedule guides all course creation, changes, and publishing for the academic year.

  • Facilitates the approval of course changes in URStudent including but not limited to overlaps, instructor changes, capacity changes, reserved seats, and classroom facility changes.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for a subset of academic departments with the intention of addressing any questions, issues or concerns that arise.

  • Hires, trains, and supervise student employees working on the curriculum management team in the Office of the Registrar.

  • Maintains strong working knowledge of and provides interpretation of all applicable university policies and procedures.

  • Provides top notch customer service to all students, staff, faculty, and external constituents on behalf of the Office of the Registrar (phone or email).

Performs other tasks and special projects as requested.

Requirements :

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Strong computer skills and proficiency with internet applications and MS Office are required. Previous experience with transfer credit management in UR Student (similar student information system – Banner, PeopleSoft, Datatel, etc.) strongly desired.

  • Must possess strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills; excellent collaboration skills coupled with the ability to work autonomously; ability to make independent judgements or decisions with minimal direction; and excellent written and oral communication skills preferred. This position requires strong attention to detail balanced with the need to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Preferred:

  • 1-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
