Job Responsibilities:

The K-12 University Center at the Rochester Institute of Technology is seeking to hire a Digital Marketing & Communications Manager to lead and implement the digital strategy for RIT K-12 and its portfolio of initiatives. Notably, this position will be directly responsible for coordinating all marketing and outreach efforts for the recruitment of participants to the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) Apprenticeships and Fellowships, a nation-wide DoD-funded STEM internship and career development program administered by RIT K-12. This is a new position.

In support of both RIT K-12 and the AEOP Apprenticeships, the Digital Marketing & Communications Manager will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic and effective digital marketing to capture and elevate the organizations in the effort to meet engagement, outreach, and recruitment goals.

  • Develop a brand identity and a comprehensive approach to representing the brands through all digital marketing and communications.

  • Develop marketing plans to showcase accomplishments and good news stories to build relationships with and recruit new partners and participants.

  • Create, maintain, and train staff to utilize a family of templates, systems, and processes to ensure consistent brand representation.

  • Drive the adoption of processes and standards supporting digital best practices (blogs, resources, newsletters) and digital metrics (dashboards).

  • Serve as the digital content manager and creator for websites, developing a strategy that ensures content is up-to-date while also building a library of relevant web content to drive engagement of stakeholders at all levels.

  • Create or coordinate all content and promotional assets (e.g., images, written articles, videos, newsletter, etc.) to properly message and drive web traffic.

  • Perform updates to the K-12 website through a content management system. Collaborate with AEOP consortium to create updates to the AEOP Apprenticeships website.

  • Develop, coordinate, and execute social media strategies (organic and paid) in support of K-12 and AEOP Apprenticeship goals.

  • Create and execute engaging content (photography, graphics, video, copy) that informs, educates, recruits, or otherwise encourages engagement.

  • Monitor social media and actively listen to social conversation across channels; manage posts, respond to followers as needed or escalate/delegate as appropriate.

  • Collect and analyze data on social media engagement to apply insights and make data-driven decisions and recommendations that inform the social media strategy.

  • Expected to be up-to-date with the latest digital technologies and social media trends.

The Digital Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for the development and execution of the annual marketing plans for recruiting participants nationally to the AEOP Apprenticeships and Fellowships and for recruiting local participants to RIT K-12’s revenue generating programs (Camp Tiger, etc.). They may provide supervision and mentorship to student workers in support of K-12 marketing efforts.

The Digital Marketing & Communications Manager is required to have excellent communication, writing and presentation skills and may perform other tasks in support of RIT K12 and the AEOP Apprenticeships as requested by leadership. This position is dependent on the availability of grant funding. It is based out of the RIT K12 University Center at RIT’s main campus. Occasional evening and weekend hours and travel to AEOP consortium meetings and events and conferences may be required. Hybrid work arrangements will be considered.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree

Experience:

3-5 years of experience in digital marketing and communications

Specialized Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; must be adept at communicating with audiences of all backgrounds and education levels

  • Marketing, graphic design, social media and website management experience

  • Project management experience

  • Knowledgeable in best practices for communicating with high school, undergraduate, and graduate students across a range of backgrounds

  • Experience in brand development

  • Knowledge of and willingness to learn new technologies and programs

  • Experienced with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Values and supports individual differences. Able to work with diverse populations.

About the K-12 University Center (RIT K-12)

RIT K-12 works in collaboration with all divisions at RIT to build connections between the college and the K-12 community (youth, teachers, parents, schools). This is accomplished through a portfolio of initiatives including customized campus visits, onetime hands-on experiences, ongoing grant-funded programs facilitated in partnership with area schools, broader impact efforts designed with RIT faculty, workforce development programs, and summer camps. The outreach provided by the RIT K-12 aims to increase college-going attitudes, to spark interest in RIT’s areas of study, and to motivate youth to consider RIT as an eventual fit for college.

Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP)

The AEOP provides students and teachers a collaborative, cohesive, portfolio of Army-sponsored STEM programs that effectively engage, inspire, and attract the next generation of STEM talent; K though post doctorate programs and expose them to Department of Defense (DoD) STEM careers. A member of the Consortium of collaborative organizations working together to support the AEOP and led by Battelle Memorial Institute, RIT is executing the AEOP STEM apprenticeships and leading the AEOP career development effort.

The AEOP Apprenticeships program is a DoD-funded, grant-based initiative that helps to address the nation’s need for a diverse, agile, and highly competent STEM literate talent pool. AEOP provides high school, undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral students with hands-on STEM research opportunities in military and university laboratories across the United States and its territories. Participating in AEOP apprenticeships offers students the unique opportunity to be mentored and trained by senior Army, Army-sponsored, or university faculty researchers while conducting real-world research. The AEOP, with leadership from RIT and support from the AEOP Consortium, will develop and implement a comprehensive career development element to supplement the Army’s existing apprenticeship programs.
