Job Description Summary
The Director of the Office of Clinical Experiences and Partnerships is responsible for managing and coordinating all operations of the office, which includes developing, fostering, and maintaining clinical experiences and partnerships in collaboration with university and school-based partners. This person will act as a liaison between area school districts/agencies and the School of Education in the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education. In addition to coordinating all teacher education clinical experiences (field placements, practicum and student teaching placements) in school/agency settings, the director will be responsible for identifying and analyzing professional trends and issues in clinical experiences and partnerships to be integrated into teacher education programs and policies as appropriate. This position will require the ability to problem-solve placement issues, develop clinical education materials and communications, and maintain records in a variety of electronic databases such as Excel, Colleague, and Informer.
Essential Functions
Build relationships to develop on-going sustained, effective clinical partnerships.
Assess the quality of clinical experiences and assessments [course, program, unit, candidates, school-based teacher educators (SBTEs)].
Conduct on-going analysis of relationship between coursework and clinical experiences, including understanding of scope and sequence of clinical experiences, and impact of type and quality of placements.
Support clinical initiatives (e.g., new teacher residency model). Work collaboratively with faculty on all aspects of clinical experiences.
Manage and coordinate the operation of the Office of Clinical Experiences and Partnerships
Develop a clinical placement (field placements, student teaching and practicum) request plan each semester which includes summer semesters.
Develop, manage, and execute placement processes and procedures, and data collection and organization.
Oversee and manage the website for the office.
Oversee the budget.
Identify and analyze professional trends and issues in clinical experiences and partnerships, as related to certification and accreditation requirements
Integrate trends and issues across teacher education programs as appropriate.
Engage in support and on-going development of the teacher performance assessment process for candidates, SBTEs, and program faculty.
Serve on professional committees and attend state conferences (e.g., NYSATE / NYACTE ).
Request and secure all clinical experience placements appropriate for each student’s NYSED certification requirements
Interact with school district representatives and regional RECFEC .
Interact with education students and program directors/faculty to provide information and advisement through oral and written communication.
Problem-solve placement issues with students, school-based and university-based teacher educators, program directors, and administrators in schools/educational settings.
Develop and update all clinical materials
Develop, edit, and revise clinical education materials including policies, MOUs, applications, orientation and training materials, handbooks, and website for multiple audiences, including school-based teacher educators (SBTEs), university-based teacher educators (UBTEs), candidates, and faculty.
Utilize Google Workspace.
Support recognition of SBTEs and clinical partnerships
Organize and supervise the distribution of remuneration/vouchers.
Collaborate with program directors to plan and implement events to support SBTEs and clinical partners.
Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in related field and 3-5 years experience working in an education field
Ability to network and build collaborative relationships with external stakeholders
Creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated commitment to working with a culturally/diverse population
Supervisory skills
Exceptional organizational skills and ability to attend to and prioritize projects
Ability to successfully manage interpersonal working relationships. As appropriate, collaborate with staff in other units and divisions to achieve the goals of the University.
Strong written, verbal, and technology communication skills
Ability to manage confidential information sensitively and appropriately
Willingness to learn new technology, including student and/or student management software technology (e.g., Colleague, Informer, Moodle), field experience verification system, and Google Workspace.
Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills
Teacher certification
Master’s degree
Familiarity with local school districts and educational agencies.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervision of School of Education staff, graduate assistants/student workers: select, train, assign work, set/approve schedule and time records, handle related issues.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in a typical office environment that requires some lifting, sitting for extended periods, and working at a computer
Equipment to be used
Must be able to operate modern office equipment including PC or laptop with docking station, printers, scanners, photocopiers
