Description

The Department of Biology at the University of Rochester ( https://www.sas.rochester.edu/bio/ ) invites applications for a non-tenure track, instructional faculty position to teach biochemistry and genetics. Primary responsibilities are:

1) Teaching Principles of Biochemistry (BIOL 250) in the spring of 2025; enrollments are 200 (This course focuses on: protein structure, folding, and function, enzyme mechanisms and kinetics, and metabolism (glycolysis à ox phos, Urea cycle, lipid synthesis and breakdown).

2) Teaching Principles of Genetics (BIOL 198) in the fall of 2025; enrollments are 300 students. This course focuses on: classic Mendelian genetics, gene linkage and mapping, the underlying molecular processes of the central dogma (DNA replication, transcription, translation), DNA repair, gene expression and regulation. In addition, basic molecular genetic techniques are covered such as PCR, DNA sequencing, gene editing (CRISPR and more traditional techniques) and gene therapies.

3) Participating in undergraduate advising.

Qualifications

A PhD in the appropriate area and demonstrated excellence in teaching is required. This full-time, nine-month academic year position includes benefits. Optional summer teaching for additional compensation is possible. The position begins January 2025. Pending satisfactory performance after the first year, candidates may be eligible for the newly established instructional faculty track with multi-year appointments and the possibility of promotion to higher ranks.
