FIFCO USA Intern - EHS (Summer Internship) in Rochester, New York

JOB SUMMARY

The EHS Intern will assist with Environmental, Health, & Safety concerns for the facility. Gain experience in coordinating environmental activities including inspections, tracking, and planning for environmental compliance activities including but not limited to wastewater, air, hazardous waste, storm water, & SPCC. Assist in ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), local governmental agencies and third-party customer requirements as it relates to Safety, Health and Environmental. Gain experience with completing required trainings as it applies to current and future environmental & safety programs. Additionally, assist in providing the facility guidance in developing, implementing, and continuously improving programs to eliminate hazards and improve workplace safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with coordinating environmental activities including inspecting, tracking, and planning for environmental compliance activities.

  • Assists, Implements and conducts required OSHA and internal safety training for all new hires, including employee annual refresher training.

  • Aid in implementing and continuously improving programs to eliminate hazards and improve workplace safety.

  • Assist in annual reviews of programs as they relate to Federal and State requirements (Mobile Equipment (ME), Fall Protection, Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO), Chemical Management / Hazard Communication, Emergency Preparedness)

  • Work on independent and collaborative Environmental and Safety projects.

  • Maintain balance of spending time on the shop floor for employee safety interaction along with maintaining the required time to complete the necessary reports and desk work.

  • Issue and maintain environmental submissions and reporting for required applications and permits.

  • Assist in maintaining, implementation, and completing accurate internal and external procedures, processes, reports, documentation, and logs, as it relates to environmental, health, & safety for the facility. Communicate and train personnel as required.

  • Ensures proper safety equipment, required permits, and annual testing is available and/or completed for personnel so they may perform their duties:

  • This may include, but is not limited to, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) access, first aid station materials, hearing conservation program, hot work permits, lock out tag out (LOTO) equipment and confined space classifying.

  • Participate in the accident process, included but not limited to: conducting post-accident investigations and prepares root cause/corrective action.

  • Actively exhibit a commitment to support a diverse and inclusive work environment.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be enrolled in college or university.

  • Interested in gaining hands-on industry experience prior to graduation.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills which are essential for interacting with all levels of the organization.

  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

  • Students majoring in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management, Environmental Science, or related fields preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint.

  • Strong technical writing capabilities.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or have Resident Alien status.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to frequently climb stairs, duck over and climb over conveyors/machines, and walk significant distances throughout the brewery.

  • Must be able to push, pull, crawl, and bend.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. and use hand tools/machinery as needed.

  • Must be able to do overhead work in limited circumstances/confined spaces.

  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, including fluctuating temperatures
