Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Counselor for PATHS Therapeutic After School Program or Summer Camp Program

This program utilizes a therapeutic, trauma informed and DEI lens to implement the evidence based PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) curriculum to help children enhance their social skills and build positive coping and problem solving techniques.

The position begins on 6/19/23 for completion of UR online orientation and pre-requisite trainings, followed by three days of on-site training, 12:00pm-5:00pm, June 20th to June 22nd, 2023. Summer Camp runs from 6/27/23 through 8/10/23.

Following orientation and training, Counselors will be assigned to a group. Each group will have 6-7 children and 3-4 staff members.

Program will run four consecutive hours per day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays – either from 10:00am to 2:00pm or from 1:00pm to 5:00pm - with some additional hours before and after the program to ride the bus as a monitor, have supervision meetings, and prepare lesson plans.

*It is required that Counselors are able to commit to all days the program is in session.

*It is preferred that Counselors have reliable transportation and a valid Driver License.

  • Passionate about improving the lives of children and families; specifically through building strong and positive relationships with children and, serving as a role model for positive social and emotional skills

  • Interest in psychology, social work, counseling or other related human service field

  • Dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as well as promoting anti-racist perspectives

  • Self-awareness and commitment to continual reflection on developing and improving clinical approach to improve integrated experience between children and staff

  • Previous work with children and/or marginalized communities where people may have limited resources; lack access to quality health care; lack the means to pay for health care; speak English fluently; or have cultural beliefs, values and behaviors different from those of the dominant Western culture

  • Preference given to candidates who share similar values, ethnic background, socio-economic status or speak the same language as the people served

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 15.00 - $ 19.86 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
