Full-time laboratory technician position available to assist with day-to-day operation of a neuroscience laboratory dedicated to understanding the neural basis of memory and sensory integration. Duties include behavioral training and care of animals, data collection and analysis with custom and commercial software, record keeping and file maintenance, ordering supplies and overall maintenance of the laboratory. Ability to work with animals, good attention to detail, computer and organizational skills are critical. Prior laboratory experience recommended. Experience working with animals is a plus. B.A./B.S. in Neuroscience, Biology, BME, Biopsychology or related fields preferred.
Supervision and Direction Exercised:
Position is supervised by faculty member, Lizabeth Romanski, assisted by senior laboratory members.
Machine and Equipment Used:
Computers, animal handling equipment, microscopes, oscilloscopes, histological laboratory equipment.
25% Oversees day-to-day operation of the lab; trains and supervises undergraduate assistants; assists in maintaining, and implementing lab protocols; responsibility for smooth operation of the laboratory physical environment.
25% Behavioral training and care of animals.
15% Orders all lab supplies and maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and maintains working order of equipment.
10% Data analysis, and maintenance of data records.
10% Creates digital stimuli for experimental paradigms and assists with task software updating and maintenance.
5% Maintains the order and cleanliness of the lab.
5% Prepares surgical packs, organizes and maintains surgical room equipment and supplies. Assists in procedures as needed.
5% Other job duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline with some laboratory experience through coursework, internship, summer research, or equivalent.
Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to work with animals; prior experience working with animals strongly preferred.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain well organized laboratory.
Competence with computer software and hardware.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
