Detailed Job Description:

Please note: Flexible scheduling/work hours may be required during break week, summer and intersession. In addition, large institute events may require additional hours (such as commencement (graduation) and Imagine RIT Festival).

Operational Management

Lead staff in the overall management of the Cantina and Grille and Global Market in full compliance with all food, occupational safety rules and regulations and customer service expectations.

Fiscal Management

Ensure financial viability of Cantina and Grille and Global Market and affiliated programs through development and management of budgets based on realistic goals. Ensure all financial related tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

Employee and Labor Management

Provide leadership and direction to a diverse workforce. Develop and maintain a positive and collaborative working environment that promotes open communication, consistency, fairness and opportunities for continuous learning while achieving the vision and mission of the University.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• 5 – 7 years of experience in food services environment

• Minimum 3 of those years in a supervisory role.

• Operational experience with a variety of food service applications and computerized menu management systems. Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and applications as needed.

• Ability to lead, manage and work collaboratively with staff.

• Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional customer service.

• Strong communication (verbal, written, interpersonal) skills and an ability to communicate effectively with a diverse constituency.

• Strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience: Food Service, Hospitality, Culinary Arts or related field

Located on the Global Village Plaza, The Global Market and Cantina & Grille are two premiere RIT Dining Services venues. These facilities are united by their passion to serve and deliver legendary customer service and experiences that will help support the RIT Community.

The Cantina & Grille is popular location on campus with a bar, Salsarita's Fresh Mexican and Global Grille (a rotating menu prepared on a Mongolian Grill. We serve between 1500 - 2000 people a day with access to a beautiful patio with outside seating, a fire pit and a water feature. The Global Market features products and items from all over the world from fresh produce or handmade sushi. This location serves around 350-400 people a day.

This position has primary responsibility for managing operational aspects of an exemplary dining services program, and for providing legendary customer service to students, faculty/staff, affiliated departments and University guests. This includes supervision of others, including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. The General Manager may offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments for full time staff and direct responsibility for making these decisions for part-time student employees. This position should be a leader by example among their peer group, setting the bar for excellence in the operations that defines student expectations for all subsequent dining experiences at RIT.
