Function of Position:

Monroe Community College, a member of the League for Innovation in the Community College, offers over 100 programs across two main campuses and several extension sites. The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is located within the Schools of STEM and Health. The mission of CSTEP to increase the numbers of students who are historically underrepresented by ethnicity or who are financially disadvantaged, to pursue careers and enter careers in science, technology, engineering, math, health, or licensed professions. The CSTEP Program Advisor will be responsible for student advisement and organizing related events. The Program Advisor works in collaboration with the CSTEP Coordinator and reports to the C/STEP Director.

**This is a grant-funded position, contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic advisement and academic support to students.

  • Serve as the secondary Advisor to CSTEP pathway students.

  • Assist with recruitment and retention of students.

  • Assist with planning, facilitating, and assessing activities or events.

  • Track student contact and program activities.

  • Assist with the Summer Bridge program.

  • Travel with or plan transportation for students to program-related events.

  • Assist students with transfer to four-year college or the employment search process.

  • Data collection and assistance with completing reports and assessments.

  • Participation in regional and statewide professional organization activities/committees.

  • Assist with oversight of the Natural Science Education Center (NSEC).

  • Assist with maintaining the social media platforms and website.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the C/STEP Director.

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, or a STEM discipline from a regionally accredited higher education institution.

  • A minimum of three years' experience working in a higher education institution in retention and advisement services.

  • Available to work on occasional weekends and evenings and to travel with and transport students to local, state, or national events.

  • Valid NYS driver's license that meets MCC requirements.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated experience with developing and implementing strategies for student achievement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned Master's degree in Counseling, Education, or a STEM discipline from a regionally accredited higher education institution.

  • Experience working with academic advisement applications; specifically, Starfish, Degree Works, Brightspace.

  • Experience using websites and social media for networking with students or clients; particularly Facebook, Instagram, etc.

  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.

    Additional Information:

Salary: This position has an expected salary of $42,000 per year.
