Ortho Clinical Diagnostics is seeking a Research and Development Intern for our 2021 Summer Intern Program to assist as a member of a cross functional team that will be responsible for performing a wide variety of functions to manufacture prototype reagent devices to support the development of diagnostics tests. These functions will include manual application of reagents, part assembly, and conducting designed experiments to support process and reagent optimization. This position is in Rochester, NY.
Operates reagent manufacturing processes in a R&D environment and provides finished devices as required by the development team.
Performs experimental test designs in the laboratory, to support development of modified processes and reagent designs.
Utilizes statistical methods to analyze experimental data. Interprets data and draws conclusions. Readily discriminates between normal and abnormal variation. Presents data to functional project team.
Maintains accurate records of work performed in accordance with Current Good Manufacture Process (cGMP) practices, established quality protocols and other standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Maintains equipment and performs necessary calibration, QC and documentation per SOPs.
Maintains a safe working environment through the proactive identification of hazards and risks.
Works cooperatively with others to help a team or work group achieve its goals.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Perform laboratory testing and produce trustworthy data. Conduct data analysis and document experimental outcomes.
The intern will present his/her work to a cross-functional group.
Undergraduate in the field of Study: Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related sciences field.
Minimum years in School: Completed 3rd year
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Relevant experience in experimental design and analytical analysis, including data evaluation and interpretation a plus.
Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with Minitab or other statistical software is preferred.
Ability to utilize good judgment working independently and within a team setting.
Basic understanding of laboratory skills, techniques and data analysis.
Knowledge of safe chemical and biological specimen handling.
Must be capable of reliable and predictable attendance.
