University of Rochester Sr Financial Analyst in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

This position supports a large academic/research department with 110-120 accounts (operating, new faculty start-ups, grants, gifts, and other special accounts). Serves as the primary accounting and contact person for 20+ faculty in matters related to grant budgets and expenditures. Reports to the Department Manager of Academic & Financial Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists the Grants and Contracts Administrator with budgets for grant proposals. Works with the Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA) to set up and maintain funded projects. Projects expenditures required for annual reports to funding agencies. Works with the Office of Research Accounting and Costing Standards (ORACS) on annual and end-of-project financial reports use to close out grants. 30%

  2. Manages grant budgets and acts as a liaison between principal investigators, ORPA, and ORACS for all grant related activities and requirements. Oversees grant closeout and extension request process. Responsible for account reconciliation, variance analysis, and financial forecasts. Make recommendations based on data analytics of financial position of the department research portfolio and provide decision support to Department Manager, Chair and principal investigators. 30%

  3. Works extensively with the Staff Accountant and collaborates with other members of the administrative team. Responsible for the data integrity of accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Oversees and audits accounting functions; monitors expenditures and other related activities to ensure compliance with internal and sponsor regulations. Meets regularly with the department Administrator and Chair to discuss status of department finances. 20%

  4. Prepares special reports tailored to the needs of the College including forecasting expenditures to start-up accounts, and operating budgets, and academic year salary recovery reports. 10%

  5. Collaborates with the Manager of Academic & Financial Operations and the Grants and Contracts Administrator to complete the University Space and Equipment surveys. Works with the Department Manager of Academic & Financial Operations on summer salary. 5%

  6. Consults with University auditors on policy and procedural questions. Administers department policy for the use of incentive funds. 5%

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting required.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • 5-6 years’ experience in academic department/university accounting required.

  • Must possess strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and be comfortable working within web-based systems.

  • Must also be familiar with accounting software such as Workday and IORA.

  • Ideal candidate will have excellent accounting skills. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and analytical skills are essential.

  • Position calls for professionalism, confidentiality, tact, diplomacy, and organizations. CLASP certification preferred or must be complete within one year of hiring.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $70,197 - $105,295 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
