University of Rochester Support and Engagement Advisor (Part-time) in Rochester, New York
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Support and Engagement (S&E) Advisor will be responsible for advising on inquiries related to Social Security (SS), International Tax Identification Numbers (ITINs), and taxes as they relate to immigration compliance. The Advisor will be responsible for designing and developing weekly workshops for hiring managers and students about SS, ITINs, and taxes. Next, the Advisor will collaborate with the Assistant Director and participate in multiple orientation events across campus (River, Medical Center, Eastman). The Advisor will welcome new students, assist students with the immigration check-in process, and provide new students with information about the services the ISO offers. Finally, the Advisor will liaise with embassy and consular post representatives in the event of a natural or geo-political crisis.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Immigration Advising
conduct weekly drop-in sessions whereby international students and hiring managers can learn about applying for a SS number, an ITIN, and filing their non-resident alien taxes, such that they are in compliance with all state and federal tax regulations
schedule individual advising sessions for students who have specific questions as they relate to SS numbers, ITINs, and taxes
work with international students to ensure that they have completed the immigration check-in process upon arriving on-campus
assist with providing travel signatures to international students when they leave the country
Administrative
monitor and respond to the tax email box
review SS Employment Verification Letters and contact students about the status of their letters
review ITIN documents and assist students with the application process
liaise with third-party vendor system and HR Payroll to troubleshoot system problems
Orientation Outreach
collaborate with the Assistant Director, Support and Engagement and present orientation content at multiple schools across campus at the start of each semester (summer, fall, spring)
conduct virtual pre-departure orientation
deliver and orient students, with information about scams, and coordinate logistics
liaise with specific embassy/consular posts in the event of a crisis
Communication
- update the ISO website and all communication as it relates to taxes, Social Security, and ITINs, and immigration check-in
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalency in related field
2 years’ experience working with international populations
experience with international student orientation
experience collaborating across campus departments in higher education
experience with organizing Zoom meetings and Zoom webinars
understanding of the Social Security, ITIN, and tax process as they relate to international students
must be a Permanent Resident or U.S. citizen

Pay Range
Pay Range: $24.91 - $34.87 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
