University of Rochester Survey Data Analyst, IT Intern in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Data Governance and Support Office within the Office of the Provost at the University of Rochester is looking to hire an undergraduate or graduate student with interest in working with survey data and metadata over a ten-week period from June 1 st through August 7 th , 2021. This role will be focused on collection and verification of data and metadata on surveys conducted at the university, development of best practices for survey creation, and outline of content, platforms, and processes needed to develop a survey question bank. This is a temporary opportunity.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This position is being offered as one of a number of positions being coordinated under the umbrella of the University IT program in the summer of 2021. As a result, while the emphasis will be on individual experiences based on a position description provided, the group will be organized as a starting cohort and meet approximately every two weeks. The emphasis of this cohort experience will be to expose all participants to multiple facets of the Information Technology environment at the University of Rochester. These sessions will combine presentation by IT professionals and group discussion to broaden the learning experience. All individuals will also be asked to prepare a poster session at the end of the program. This will provide program participants an opportunity to link classroom learning to the practicum, as well as formalize thoughts and service recommendations to the IT organization.

Note – This year’s program will be 100% virtual.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under direction of the project managers and with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative:

  1. Working with an existing survey catalog, verify and document ongoing surveys. Update or complete metadata necessary to encourage use or reuse.

  2. Create communication and educational materials for survey best practices. The audience is faculty and staff at the university who wish to collect information from students and employees with the highest quality response data.

  3. Propose content, platforms, and processes necessary to build a “survey question bank” with questions that can be reused for multiple surveys following best practices. As time permits, create a proof of concept for the question bank that follows the approved proposal.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Pursuing (or completed) a bachelor’s degree, and interest in Information Technology, data and metadata standards, and/or library and information science.

  2. Strong oral, written, and team communication skills, effective questioning, listening, and analytical skills.

  3. Strong communication skills and ability to address a variety of audiences with clarity and appropriate regard, understanding the limitations of remote interactions and collaborations.

  4. Attention to detail and strong documentation skills required.

  5. Experience or interest in survey methodology (or related coursework) a plus.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 15.00 - $ 25.48 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
