Genesee & Wyoming Tax Accounting Internship - Summer 2023 in Rochester, New York
This is a paid internship. A summer intern will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the tax department, including compliance and financial reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Compliance - prepare various federal, state and other miscellaneous tax returns on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
Accounting and Reporting - assist in preparation of tax provisions and effective rates (monthly, quarterly and year-end)
Understand and improve upon current processes and documentation
Research - analyze domestic tax issues, including state and local tax questions, and various other related issues
Assist in special projects to identify, research and analyze tax issues and planning opportunities, including due diligence reviews on potential acquisitions
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Effective oral and written communication skills
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Excellent critical thinking/problem solving skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to interact effectively with all levels and continue to maintain a high level of objectivity and independence
