University of Rochester Teaching Assistant II in Rochester, New York
Responsibilities
General Purpose:
Assists with assembling instructional materials, set-up and clean-up of classroom hands-on projects, and assists students and classroom teachers throughout each class session. The Teaching Assistant is responsible for supervising students before and after class time, in class, and during recreation breaks as needed.
Programs this position may support include: the Creative Workshop’s youth and adult art-making classes; Youth Art Camps for ages 5 – 15; and/or the Academic & Community Programs’ Expanded Learning Collaboration (ELC) partnership program with the RCSD.
Responsibilities:
Manages sign in and sign out process conveying important messages when needed.
Assists with documentation of student work & behavioral reports as needed.
Helps establish and maintain an organized, well-managed, welcoming classroom environment that encourages student participation.
Assist teachers with instruction (particularly) by preparing materials, providing individual instruction and helping to displays student artwork).
Provides students with assistance, guidance, and encouragement
Remains attentive to student safety at all times – helps enforce classroom safely measures (mask wearing, sanitizing spaces, guiding children to wash hands, etc.).
Collaborates with program staff to facilitate games and fun activities during recreation period.
Helps to clean up studio spaces after class.
Adheres to all University of Rochester and MAG policies.
Participates in mandatory meetings and trainings.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High School Diploma required
or equivalent combination of education and experience required
BA or BFA in art, art education, or education or A.S. in Education or related experience. Strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively and to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents/guardians from diverse backgrounds preferrede.
Related experience with childcare, children’s programs (after school, summer camps, etc.) and/or student teaching preferred.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $16.50 - $21.45 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
