Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems OR an associate degree in automotive or diesel repair technology. Substitution: Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience. Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as B.O.C.E.S, in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience. Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience. Substitution: Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience.1. Duties Description Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor 3, the incumbent will perform a variety of journey-level motor vehicle mechanic tasks at Saratoga Regional Garage and associated facilities including repairing and maintaining passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, utility task vehicles (UTVs), and heavy equipment to include commercial motor vehicles, trucks, payloaders, backhoes, tractors, skid steer loaders, and auxiliary electric and hydraulic equipment attachments. The entire fleet includes vehicles fueled with regular gas, diesel and hybrid electric powered equipment. The incumbent will also be responsible for:• Diagnosing electrical and mechanical failures, completing repairs and preventive maintenance on various grounds maintenance equipment and small engine equipment to include rotary and flail mowing equipment, two/four cycle small equipment. • Use various welding techniques in completing repairs and new work to include fabrication of brackets, mounts and pipe using various alloys. • The incumbent will assign, supervise, review, train and evaluate assigned seasonal staff to accomplish needed tasks within the park.
