Skidmore College Summer Academic Institute Resident Advisor in Saratoga Springs, New York

Resident Advisors (RAs) work under the supervision of the Opportunity Program (OP) staff and the Resident Director to provide holistic instruction and mentoring in academic, social, and emotional expectations for program participants throughout the five weeks of the Summer Academic Institute (SAI). We are particularly interested in candidates from underrepresented groups that can add to the diversity and excellence of our academic program and community.

Responsibilities include: providing direct academic, personal, and social peer support to SAI participants; designing and implementing a regular, daily schedule of events and instructional programming to teach participants best practices for college success; maintaining an environment conducive to learning; assisting in the critical enforcement of policies, practices, and procedures; providing a reasonably safe learning environment for the participants within the residence halls; attending regular weekly staff meetings; conducting nightly rounds to ensure the safety of all residents; understanding and upholding all college and Summer Academic Institute rules, regulations, and policies; addressing all policy violations immediately and consistently; mediating conflicts among residents as they arise; maintaining consistency and fairness when dealing with all participants in the program; assisting residents in their adjustment to roommate and community living; chaperoning residents on evening and weekend social trips/events; assisting program TAs and faculty with daily academic instruction; and other duties as assigned by the OP staff.

RAs are required to live in the residence hall for the duration of the five-week summer program, including weekends. RAs must participate in virtual onboarding and a one-week on-campus staff training preceding the summer program. Room & Board included.

Minimum Qualifications

Skidmore student (at least a rising junior) or recent Skidmore graduate.

Preferred Qualifications

Residential Life experience. Valid driver's license.

Salary

$15.00 per hour
