SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking to hire a full-time EOP Success Coach in the Student Affairs division. The Educational Opportunity Program is a New York State college access and academic support program available to students whose educational and economic circumstances prevented them from demonstrating their potential. EOP provides a broad range of services, including tutoring, skill development workshops, leadership opportunities, mentoring, counseling, advisement, pre-freshman summer experience, and modest financial support. Established in 1967, the State University of New York's Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) has helped promising students to overcome financial and academic barriers to attend a SUNY college, earn a degree, and achieve their life goals.

Under the general direction of the Director of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), the EOP Success Coach is a staff (unrepresented) full-time 12-month appointed position. The EOP Success Coach provides strategies and tools to help students have a successful learning experience and acclimate to the academic environment. The EOP Success Coach assists students with goal setting, academic success skills, utilizing appropriate academic resources, and navigating university policies, procedures, and resources. The position involves monitoring student progress towards graduation by extracting, analyzing, and reporting on student progress utilizing available databases and resources. The Success Coach is responsible for maintaining accurate/updated records of student interactions,and providing services and guidance to all students who meet the income and academic EOP guidelines. The Success Coach is expected to work evening and occasional weekend hours during specific times in the academic year.


  • Promote completion and success for (EOP) students, tracking student academic progress and encouraging students who can benefit from tutoring and other support services.

  • Maintains an advising/counseling relationship with program students by providing individual and group counseling sessions relating to academic, financial, career and personal counseling matters, and linking students to various academic support systems and other support services.

  • Provide counseling that focuses on adaption to the campus environment, goal development, academic planning, problem resolution, and other areas that help to increase student self-sufficiency and independence.

  • Report and discuss student academic and personal concerns with supervisor and other college personnel as appropriate and refer students to the appropriate college and/or community services.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information according to FERPA and professional ethics.

  • Attend appropriate meetings of the EOP Advisory Board, the Student Affairs Division and campus retention meetings.

  • Work collaboratively with the campus community while serving as a productive member of the EOP program.

  • Keep abreast of current issues and trends in higher education retention,and provide excellent student service through the implementation of a student-centered philosophy.

  • Collaborative communication style with ability to lead by positive example and influence.

  • Maintain a student records management system using computer proficiency.

  • Serve occasional evening hours and participate in all student orientation programs and workshops.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher required.

  • At least one year of experience working with one or more of the following areas:

  • Higher education, public school, academic support, counseling or a related field required.

  • Experience working with economically and/or educationally disadvantaged populations preferred.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated background or skills in education, tutoring, counseling, or human services

  • Demonstrated interest and skills in working with socioeconomically and ethnically diverse populations, and be able to identify academic needs and offer solutions

  • Intermediate computer skills are required including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,

    Additional Information:

Salary: $45,000/ per year
