Description

The Camp Galgalim Director reports directly to the Camp Director to ensure all aspects of Camp Galgalim run effectively. Camp Galgalim serves campers that are rising 7 th -9 th grade. This is a travel based program that includes daily field trip, on site days and an overnight trip. They must embrace the SJCCs mission and strategic plan in guiding current and future efforts.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The position consists of hands-on duties as well as administrative work as well. Hands-On responsibilities for this position include supervising tween camp staff, camper supervision, , daily programming, parent communication, coordination of activities for campers while on JCC grounds, planning special events and behavior management. Administrative areas include handling logistics of travel such as; scheduling and coordination of field trips, planning and coordination of events for campers and families, coordination of volunteer projects, coordination of an overnight trip, confirming transportation, monitoring camp petty cash, maintaining camper records, camp payments and reimbursements.

  • Works closely with the JCCs Aquatics Director to coordinate the Tween Camp swimming program and trip swimming.

  • Assists Camp Director with staff recruitment, training, and supervision.

  • Works closely with the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director, Unit Heads, and Tween Camp Operations Director in coordinating and planning programming and scheduling.

  • Assists Camp Director in completing all necessary paperwork to ensure licensing of the Tween Camp.

  • Meets regularly with the Camp Director and participates in and may lead camp-wide staff meetings.

  • Holds weekly meetings with his/her staff.

  • Must work to maintain good morale and teamwork amongst the camp staff. Helps to build and sustain spirit and enthusiasm amongst the campers and staff; provides leadership in the adherence by campers and staff to all camp and JCC rules, policies, and procedures; helps to establish appropriate camper behavior and effective behavior management techniques; leads by example in the respect of property and the care of equipment and supplies.

  • Accepts appropriate assignments as directed or delegated by the Camp Director or JCC Campus Director.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to supervise staff and campers.

  • Must be at least 21 years old

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to plan, initiate, organize, and carry-out daily and special programs.

  • At least one season of camp/childcare administrative experience.

  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid Training; and any other certification as required by licensing agencies.

  • Valid New York State Drivers license.

  • A positive, upbeat spirit, can do attitude and great sense of fun!

    Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods time,

  • Ability to bend at the waist, squat and pick items off the floor

  • Ability to walk, hike, and climb, long distances

  • Must have great eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and participate in camp activities;

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
