The Salvation Army Corps Ministry Assistant (Spring Valley Corps) in Spring Valley, New York

Overview

The Ministry Assistant will serve in a critical support role to the Corps Officers and in a leadership role. They will be intimately and integrally involved in the full ministry of the Corps, concentrating on our Haitian community, including teaching, leading, and preaching the Gospel message, providing Spiritual direction and care of congregation members and visitors. The Ministry Assistant will engage as directed by the Corps Officers in leadership responsibilities and learning opportunities that will provide them with a well-rounded understanding and experience of the full responsibilities of Corps operations.

NOTE: THIS IS POSITION IS A MINISTRY-CENTERED (RELIGIOUS) ROLE

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Corps Officer with the development, planning and implementation of various programs for Haitians living in our community, including but not limited to:

  • Social and evangelistic ministry programs.

  • Corps summer youth ministries, including the recruitment for camps and Bible school programs.

  • After-school programs with the specific responsibilities for bridging students into evangelistic and discipleship ministries.

  • Network with existing organizations who support and uplift the Haitian Community

  • Have a working understanding of how government agencies and the school systems work so you can assist others through the process of applying for help.

  • Assist the Corps Officers in providing leadership at events including assisting the Corps Officers in the promotion, registration, and transportation of events/activities. Transportation could include driving to pick up donations, program participants, etc.

  • Lead or assist in aspects of public relations events and campaigns as assigned by Corps Officers, including but not limited to, the Christmas Kettle campaign and other fundraising events.

  • Lead or assist with various worship, praise, prayer, and evangelism services such as teaching Sunday School classes, lead or assist with Bible studies, Men/Women fellowship programs, outreach programs, Community Cares Ministry, etc.

  • Aid with the delivery of social service assistance.

  • Assist with administrative responsibilities: Advisory Board meetings, oversight of donations, program utilization and statistics.

  • Assist as needed for general, daily Corps support needs and performs special projects as assigned by the Corps Officers.

  • Communicates with various individuals including Corps Officers, staff, clients, Advisory Board members, volunteers, donors, community leaders, etc.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of the Corps Officers, strengthen and grow the Haitian ministry in Rockland County

  • Develop and maintain programs and ministries to enhance the healthy spiritual, physical and emotional development of those under your influence.

  • Develop and maintain an intensive relational ministry with the Haitian congregation of the corps.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of an innovation Christian Education/Sunday School Program in French-Creole.

  • Develop and maintain an active recruitment and training program for leaders within the corps setting.

Christmas Ministry

  • Assist with driving and organizing the Christmas Kettle effort.

  • Work with local High Schools and Service Clubs to recruit volunteers.

Qualifications

  • A uniformed Salvationist, in good standing

  • High School or GED Diploma

  • Must uphold biblical standards in personal and professional life, including fiscal support of the Corps ministry.

  • Must conduct oneself in a manner which reflects credit on The Salvation Army, its leadership, and on the Lord Jesus.

  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Must remain current on KeepSAfe Trainings

  • Must become certified through the County to be present during the After School/Summer Fun Program.

  • Must be able to clearly communicate in French-Creole as well as English.

  • Responsible, respectful, positive role model and be able to follow instructions.

  • Patience and able to assist, work with and develop children and adults.

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

  • Must be willing to soldier at the Spring Valley, NY Corps
