Description
Coordinate the development of choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists to lead the congregation in song. Foster and encourage “full, conscious, and active participation” of students, faculty and staff in the liturgical life of the University. Engage students in the prayerful planning and leading of university prayer and liturgical services.
Examples of Duties
Coordinate Music Ministry
Coordinate and execute the music for University prayer and worship services. Creating a liturgical music program which promotes community growth and engagement.
Create an environment where musical gifts can be shared in a non-competitive way, where musicians can bond and work together for the assembly; an atmosphere that will retain current and attract new choir members and musicians.
Audition, develop, educate, and train musically gifted people in such a way that their giftedness inspires the community.
Provide ongoing liturgical formation, musical coaching, and practical preparation for cantors and choir.
With student leaders, direct the choir, working to enhance their musical skills and develop their call to liturgical service.
Develop a Music Planning Committee, explore the creation of a contemporary worship team, and investigate other initiatives which might better engage the University Community.
Purchase, maintain and store all music, musical instruments
Continually seek feedback through ongoing evaluation of all liturgical experiences

Coordinate Liturgy
Provide leadership for worship in accordance with the Liturgical season and the norms of the Roman Catholic Church.
Create great liturgy! Create prayer services and worship aids as appropriate.
Direct the efforts of the Student Liturgy Committee who assist you in the recruitment, training and scheduling of all lay ministry volunteers.
Convene regular meetings and maintain communication with the Student Liturgy Committee in creatively planning the liturgical life of the University.
Work with the University Chaplain in the planning, preparation, and execution of special events, including: the Mass of the Holy Spirit, Blessing of the Brains, Baccalaureate, Francis Week, Penance Services, Lenten programming, and the creation of a variety of both Catholic and multi-denominational prayer services.
Ensure a system for ongoing communication and collaboration is in place for working with and engaging the Friars in liturgy planning.

Work with the University Ministries Team in fulfilling the full mission of University Ministries .

Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in liturgical music preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working Conditions / Physical requirements
Physically able to play the piano.
Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Able to lift 25lbs. (music, office material)
Able to work evenings and weekends.
