Oversees the creation and production of all materials related to the university campaign and fundraising activities, partnering very closely with the Chief Communications Officer and the staff of Marketing and Communications. Acts as web content manager for Advancement web pages, partnering with Marketing and Communications to maintain accuracy/freshness of Web site content. Provides written communications and professional support to cross-functional University Advancement initiatives. Prepares targeted and timely thank-you letters from the university’s president to leadership donors. Works with colleagues in Annual Giving and Stewardship to ensure meaningful messaging. Has frequent contact with all levels of university administration and faculty, major donors, corporations, community members, foundations, and other university constituencies.

Examples of Duties

Oversees the creation and production of all materials related to the University campaign and fundraising activities. Prepares targeted and timely thank-you letters from the president to leadership donors. Works with colleagues in Annual Giving and Stewardship to ensure meaningful messaging.


Creates, prepares and/or edits a variety of letters, proposals, presentations, brochures, and various other professional communications.


Plans, organizes, and manages special projects as assigned.


Supervises student workers and interns throughout the academic year and summer.


Acts as content manager for Advancement web pages.


Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned or as become evident.


Typical Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or significant related experience.

Four to six years of progressive project coordination, office process management and creative business writing experience within a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated planning, organization, communications, and presentation skills. Excellent knowledge and use of English grammar and punctuation in the preparations and/or delivery of both oral and written communications.

  • Demonstrated Web content management.

  • Extensive experience preparing a wide range of both internal and external communications using creative writing techniques where appropriate.

  • Expert in the utilization of the Microsoft Office suite, to include e-mail, spreadsheets, database, presentation, and word processing applications. Familiarity with desktop publishing and Web site creation software.

  • Excellent collaboration skills. Must be able to relate to all levels of University administrative staff and faculty, as well as corporate executives, and other outside donors with ease and enthusiasm.

  • Sensitivity to confidential material and working relationships with staff.

  • Working independently must be able to identify, analyze and resolve a wide range of issues, providing creative and decisive recommendations within the context of existing processes and identify the need for revision or creation of new processes.

  • Must be innovative and flexible, with demonstrated ability to multi-task, and strong ability to own and manage projects and people.
