Description
Performs tasks and responsibilities within the scope of New York State LPN-licensing law: health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care. Helps maintain, monitor the proper functioning of the electronic medical record system for Health Services, and provide application support for other Health Services staff if needed. Monitors inventory of clinical, clerical, and sanitation supplies for Health Services and Counseling Services, ordering new supplies as necessary.

Examples of Duties
Provide LPN-level nursing care to students in accordance with professional licensing guidelines, and under the direct supervision of the medical provider. Responsibilities will include but not necessarily be limited to:
Collecting initial information submitted electronically via the EHR and fax or over the phone to triage and schedule students/patients for an appointment, if needed.
Rooming patients (when applicable) and obtaining vital signs;
Collecting specimens for routine laboratory testing, to include drawing blood;
Conducting laboratory/testing procedures on-site or processing laboratory order paperwork;
Documenting patient visit and/or laboratory information appropriately in the EHR.

Process any information or communications that are received through immunization records, health history forms, and consent and release of information requests. Scan and appropriately store documents in the EHR. Provide reports and updates to the director as needed.10%
Monitor the inventory for the Center for Student Wellbeing; order supplies, when needed, in accordance with departmental procedures and university policies; and maintain order and organization in all supplies storage areas.10%
Answer phones, schedule student appointments, process student email inquiries or redirect them where appropriate to other staff.5%
Provide information or health education and/or informational materials to as directed by the medical provider. Assist with student outreach/programs related to health (i.e., blood pressure screenings, clinics, etc.)5%
Assist in making referrals to on or off-campus healthcare providers. Other duties as assigned.5%
Supplemental Functions:
Shares responsibility for the general upkeep of Student Health Services offices and patient rooms including appropriate sanitation/disinfection and disposal of medical waste in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) guidelines and local policy/procedures.
Help with center or campus functions when and if needed.
Typical Qualifications
LPN license and currently registered to practice in the State of New York. Must be trained and skilled to draw blood.
Must have excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills. Must be proficient using computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Proficiency using the required functions of an electronic medical record system.
At least two (2) years’ work experience as a LPN in Health or Occupational setting.
