New York Edge Counselor-in-Training (CIT) in Staten Island, New York

New York Edge is the largest provider of after school and summer camp programs in New York City public schools. Each year, programs in academics – including STEM, the arts, sports & wellness, and college access help 40,000 students develop leadership skills and succeed in school. Working parents count on our programs to provide safe and enriching environments for their children.

Summary:

We are excited to give the young adults in our community an opportunity to build professional skills while helping engage campers in positive ways throughout the summer. Our Counselor in Training program will teach and encourage participants to be effective youth workers by attending trainings, working alongside seasoned youth professionals, and creating a supportive, safe work environment. New York Edge camps are housed in a New York City Elementary or Middle School. Counselors in Training (C.I.T.) will support camp staff and instructors before, during, and after activities.

Job Type:

Summer Seasonal, Part-Time

Pay:

$16/hr

Schedule:

Up to 25 Hours a week; Mon-Fri

Core responsibilities:

  • Support the overall successful operation of the Summer Day Camp

  • Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns regarding children, staff, or the facility.

  • Perform specific scheduled assignments, including but not limited to: arrival/departure, lunch duty, and office/administrative support.

  • Prepare the learning environment and necessary supplies for program activities. Assume responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of the camp room, program supplies, and activity space.

  • Attend all mandatory trainings, meetings and events

  • All other duties as assigned

    Qualifications and Requirments:

  • Must be enrolled in a credentialed High School (DOE, Private, or Charter)

  • Employment Certification (Working Papers) for Students 14-17 years of age

  • Must be available to work July 8th, 2024 - August 16th, 2024

  • Must be able to attend training on June 27th, 2024

  • Must be responsible, reliable and punctual!

    At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
