NYC Department of Parks & Recreation Playground Associate for City Cleanup Corps Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, New York

Be part of the City Cleanup Corps (CCC) at NYC Parks and beautify public
spaces. The CCC will help promote tourism and confidence in New York
City and drive a recovery for all of us.

NYC Parks is the steward of over 30,000 acres of land - 14 percent of
New York City - including more than 5,000 individual properties ranging
from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and
Greenstreets. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000
playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 67 public
pools, 51 recreational facilities, 15 nature centers, 14 golf courses,
and 14 miles of beaches. We care for 1,200 monuments and 23 historic
house museums. We look after 600,000 street trees, and two million more
in parks. We are New York City's principal providers of recreational and
athletic facilities and programs. We are home to free concerts,
world-class sports events, and cultural festivals.

Ocean Breeze Park, in Staten Island, has a 2,500-seat athletic complex
that boasts a state-of-the-art indoor track and field amenity, exercise
rooms and a food concession. The facility is a premier destination for
athletic events, drawing competitors from around the region. Future
capital plans include various sport fields and a cross-country running

Major Responsibilities • Organize and implement group or team games,
tournaments, multi-game events and other formal competitive, artistic
and educational activities. • Distribute, collect and perform minor
repairs and adjustments to athletic equipment and play materials. •
Ensure proper health and safety standards of playground; Inspect play
areas and report evidence of unsafe or hazardous conditions. Cordon off
or remove hazardous equipment and/or materials. • Organize the community
by attending meetings and assemble volunteers to assist in recreational
programming, including teen programs, holiday events and upkeep of the
playground and facilities. • Uphold discipline and prevent disturbances
within the recreational area. • Coordinate mailing lists, fliers and
correspondence for special events. • Collect and submit accurate data,
forms and reports to meet internal deadlines.

Qualification Requirements

1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and
either: a) Two summer seasons, or six months, of experience as an
instructor, counselor or coach in an organized recreational program;
or b) Completion of sixty credits toward a baccalaureate degree from
an accredited college; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above.

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or
Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city
service. New York City residency required within 90 days for all other

Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee of $54.00.
Hired candidates who are not currently employed by the City will be
subject to an $88.25 background check fee.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

1. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
2. Experience with coaching numerous sports including but not limited
to track & field, cross country and team sports.
3. Able to work nights and weekends.
4. Valid New York State driver license.
