Police Athletic League Security Guard in Staten Island, New York

The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.

We are looking for a part-time Security Guard responsible for maintaining the safety of participants, staff, and property during program hours. In consultation with the Center Director, strategize, implement and promote security procedures.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.

  • Investigate disturbances.

  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.

  • I.D. all visitors prior to entrance and manage visitor logbook.

  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.

  • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.

  • Circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property.

  • Warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary.

  • Screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.

  • Escort or drive motor vehicle/s to transport individuals to specified locations.

  • Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use andto detect evidence of tampering.

    Additional Responsibilities

  • Submit weekly reports to Center Director on safety concerns/incidents

  • Responsible for the shutting down of building premises (doors, windows, gates etc.)

  • File incident reports (damage of property, intrusion, altercations) no later than the day of incident.

  • When directed, attend safety meetings with staff, parents, volunteers and community residents as needed to assist in program safety.

  • Interact with parents/visitors.

    Skills/Knowledge Required

  • A minimum H.S. diploma/GED.

  • Security Guard License/Certificate is a plus.
