Job Title: Summer Camp Aquatics Coordinator

Daily Rate: $200

Supervisor: Associate Director, Operations

New Country Day Camp is a 7-week, outdoor summer camp for campers in kindergarten-8th grade. NCDC operates M-F, 8am-5pm, and provides transportation for staff and campers to and from our campgrounds on Staten Island via multiple locations throughout Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. NCDC is a neurodiverse camp community, and all staff members are responsible for supporting neurodivergent and neurotypical campers and staff to have successful summers.

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations of New Country Day Camp, the Aquatics Coordinator will be responsible for supervising all day-to-day functions of the swim program, working with Division Supervisors to address all parent concerns regarding the swim program, creating and maintaining appropriately leveled swim sections for campers, and other division related needs as assigned. The Aquatics Coordinator acts as the liaison between NCDC leadership and campground Aquatics staff.

SCOPE OF INFLUENCE

  • Direct client group: Campers ages 4-13

  • Supervised by: Associate Director, Operations

  • Supervises: Aquatics Assistant and Counselor-in-Training

  • Liaises with NCDC Staff, HKC Aquatics Director, Lifeguards, and Swim Instructors

  • Collaborates closely with Division Staff

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Program Coordination

  • In collaboration with leadership, update and facilitate Aquatics trainings for staff orientation in June

  • Create camper rosters for first day swim evaluations

  • Create and coordinate plans for first day swim evaluations

  • Oversee swim section grouping process for 800+ campers according to swim level and age division

  • Oversee organization of camper swim cards to be used as assessment tools during instructional periods

  • Create swim rosters and work with Division Staff to communicate changes in camper swim sections/levels daily

  • Keep an updated inventory of swim caps and cards for all levels

  • Create and enforce a counselor supervision schedule, ensuring all campers in the pool complex have adequate supervision

    Communication

  • Work with Division Supervisors to swiftly address all family communications between swim staff and families during the camp season

  • Share daily updates on the number of campers in each pool section with the HKC Aquatics Director to ensure appropriate lifeguard coverage during instructional periods

  • Inform appropriate HCK staff of all camper swim level changes daily

  • Work with leadership team to communicate any programmatic adjustments to HKC Aquatics Director as needed

  • Work with Division Team to proactively communicate camper swim progress on a daily/weekly basis

    Leadership and Supervision:

  • Maintain and exhibit a role of leadership at all times as a member of NCDC’s Key Staff

  • Be present at all days of orientation, camp and staff meetings during the camp season

  • Proactively problem solve and motivate colleagues as difficult moments present themselves throughout the camp season; encourage flexibility and understanding as means to achieve common goals

  • Establish and promote a commitment to the mission and vision of New Country Day Camp

  • Willingness to support Division related duties as assigned, when needed by Division Manager

  • Attend weekly key staff meetings, as needed

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Required Knowledge

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or related field or equivalent professional experience required

  • Professional experience as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor preferred

  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills

  • Experience in a camp setting with demonstrated responsibilities in program management is required

  • Highly organized with strong attention to details and an eye for developing efficient, internal systems and workflow

  • Ability to work independently throughout the camp day, as well as cooperatively with large groups of staff at swim periods

  • Can attend all days of Staff Orientation and camp starting early June through August 15th
