Job Title: Division Supervisor - New Country Day Camp
Daily Rate: $200

New Country Day Camp is a 7-week, outdoor summer camp for campers in kindergarten-8th grade. NCDC operates M-F, 8am-5pm, and provides transportation for staff and campers to and from our campgrounds on Staten Island via multiple locations throughout Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. NCDC is a neurodiverse camp community, and all staff members are responsible for supporting neurodivergent and neurotypical campers and staff to have successful summers.
J OB PURPOSE
Division Supervisors will be responsible for the overall well-being of approximately 100+ campers at a time within a given age group at New Country Day Camp, which serves a population of campers entering K-8. They will also be responsible for ongoing communication with the families of their assigned age group and the supervision of the counselors within their assigned age division. Required to attend staff orientation on weekday evenings and two weekend days in June.
SCOPE OF INFLUENCE
Direct client group: Campers (K-8th Grade; Age assignment TBD)
Directly supervises: Counselors, Division Assistant, and any assigned Counselors-in-Training
Serves as direct contact for families in matters directly related to their camper(s)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Camper Care
Be responsible for the overall well-being of approximately 100+ campers and 20+ counselors at a time, including but not limited to physical and emotional needs
Maintain organized systems and records of camper and staff attendance, injuries, accidents, and other important information
Learn, understand, and promote camp’s mission and values (Personal Growth and Responsibility, Empathy, Respect, Passion), including our Open Tent philosophy of inclusion
Consult with leadership staff to plan and execute special weekly division-wide programming
Be present at the pool complex for swim periods and support Swim Coordinator
Logistics and Communications
Attend pre-camp meetings with families and/or staff as needed
Ensure staff/campers follow their daily schedule, guaranteeing each camp day runs smoothly
Communicate with parents as needed through the camp season, including being available via email and cell phone until 6:30pm nightly
Work with Community Engagement Manager to compile weekly division emails to families with pictures and program updates
Write weekly emails to staff detailing important information for the week ahead, with an emphasis on boosting morale and maintaining a positive staff culture
Communicate and effectively partner as needed with Support Supervisors, Aquatics staff, Program staff, and NCDC leadership regarding camper needs and concerns
With Operations Manager, order supplies for division and maintain an organized inventory and balanced budget
Be responsible for overall cleanliness and organization of division shelter and surrounding area
Leadership and Staff Supervision
As a member of the NCDC Supervisory Staff, model professional behavior for campers and other staff at all times
Be present at all days of orientation, camp and staff meetings during the camp season
Create agendas and facilitate staff meetings with assigned division staff
Proactively problem solve and motivate colleagues as difficult moments present themselves throughout the camp season; encourage flexibility and understanding as means to achieve common goals
Establish and promote a commitment to the mission and vision of New Country Day Camp
Learns and implements NCDC’s approach to supervision and behavior
management, including regular check-ins and evaluations for supervisees
Partner respectfully with the Support Supervisor on crisis management using a Restorative Approach, working to provide the proper supports for campers within the division.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, liberal arts or equivalent professional experience required
3+ years of experience working with elementary school-age children
Experience as a leader in an inclusive, educational setting, or similar experience
Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred
Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
Can attend all days of Staff Orientation and camp starting in early June through August 16th
Ability to interact with families, children, and colleagues of diverse cultural and social backgrounds
Fast learner with ability to work independently and collaboratively
