Summary:
New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the seasonal role of Summer Day Camp Activity Instructor. In this role, you will be responsible for leading summer day camp activities for children and teens. You will teach or co-lead activities in one of the following areas: STEM, Visual Art, Performing Art, Literacy, Student Leadership and Character Development, Sports, Health and Wellness, Business, Finance, Media Arts, Journalism, Botany and urban agriculture, History.
Schedule:
Monday – Friday/8am – 6pm (individual shifts vary)
Location:
We have Summer Day Camp location across the five boroughs!
Remote:
No, this role requires you to be in-person.
Pay:
Starting at $20.00/hour

Essential Job Functions:
Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program by providing appropriate supervision at all times.
Be an agent of safety for campers. This includes taking responsibility for one’s own well-being and the well-being of others. Assist in COVID-19 wellness screenings and health related concerns.
Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns regarding participants, staff, or the facility.
Teach or co-lead meaningful activity lesson plans and special events that are structured, age- appropriate, fun, exciting, challenging, and values based in the areas of arts, STEM, character development, literacy, creative expression, community service, physical fitness and/or nutrition.
Review curriculum and lesson plans.
Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to student participants and support staff.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, unites, and projects; communicate those objectives to students and supporting staff.
Prepare the learning environment and necessary supplies for program activities. Assume responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of the camp room, program supplies, and activity space.
Lead and promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all staff and participants.
Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child’s strengths and areas of growth. Take a leadership role in providing regular updates to caregivers.
Input data and prepare reports.
Attend all required pre-camp trainings. Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to lead activities
Possess a desire to work directly with children and teens
Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
Ability to work as a team member
Creative, enthusiastic, actively engaged and patient
Ability to follow directions and adhere to all policies/procedures
Open to feedback with a desire to grow professionally
Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old before July 1st, 2022
High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college highly preferred
Experience working with children strongly preferred
Must be able to work the entire length of Summer Day Camp program
Must be able to attend all pre-camp trainings prior to the start of Summer Day Camp
Covid-19 Related Requirements:
Proof of Vaccination is required.
Must be willing to adhere to all federal, state, and local mandates regarding the Covid-19 virus which include but are not limited to wearing PPE and remaining socially distant
